Where In San Francisco is Edward Sugimoto? – September 30, 2009

September 30, 2009

Last week, hemajang showed off his recognition skeelz by correctly guessing Liliha Bakery from a photo of condiments. How the!?ย Please help me congratulate bruddah hemmaz.

Much like our Philly version of WIHIES, we’ll make this week’s contest a lil’ more challenging and make y’all guess on more than just 1 photo. This time, we gots 6! Oh yeah! Perhaps it’ll last longer than anย hour now? ๐Ÿ˜› Ah, we shall see…

Like before, no worries. Even if you’ve never been to Frisco, I’ll have hints for each photo. Using Googs and the rest of the `ohana’s guesses will help some lucky winnah solve the puzzle that is WIH, er WISF. Go getum cuz!

Envelopes and Stamps

September 28, 2009

Sorry for being shmall kine MIA gang. Just flew back from San Fran/Reno/Sac-town and boy are my arms tired. Yeah, ok, LAME! I know. Sorry. Anyway, I only had time for a quickie post today, so I’m a-passin’ on this info I got forwarded to me via email. Not sure how true it is (Snopes says it’s not), but a good way to start off this Fun Day Monday nonetheless don’tcha think? BTW, if you are the type to easily get grossed out, you may wanna scroll at your own risk. ๐Ÿ˜‰ Have a good week y’all!

A woman was working in a post office in California. One day she licked the envelopes and postage stamps instead of using a sponge.

That very day the lady found a cut on her tongue. A week later, she noticed an abnormal swelling of her tongue.

World Wide Ed

She went to the doctor, and they found nothing wrong.. Her tongue was not sore or anything.. A couple of days later, her tongue started to swell more, and it began to get really sore, so sore, that she could not eat. She went back to the hospital, and demanded something be done.

The doctor took an x-ray of her tongue and noticed a lump. He prepared her for minor surgery. When the doctor cut her tongue open, a live cockroach crawled out!!!!

World Wide Ed

There were cockroach eggs on the seal of the envelope. The egg was able to hatch inside of her tongue, because of her saliva, which was warm and moist… This is a true story reported on CNN!

Andy Hume wrote: “Hey, I used to work in an envelope factory. You wouldn’t believe the things that float around in those gum applicator trays. I haven’t licked an envelope for years!”

I used to work for a print shop (32 years ago), and we were told NEVER to lick the envelopes. I never understood why until I had to go into storage and pull out 2500 envelopes that were already printed and saw several squads of cockroaches roaming around inside a couple of boxes with eggs everywhere. They eat the glue on the envelopes.

PLEASE PASS THIS ON TO YOUR FRIENDS!
After reading this you will never lick another envelope or stamp again.

(No, don’t actually pass it along cause it appears to be a hoax, but do feel free to chat it up in the comment area below ๐Ÿ˜› ).

P.S. The Colbie Caillat interview went really well (stay tuned for the video). She’s such a sweet, genuine individual and I wish her all the best! Who shall I interview next? ๐Ÿ™‚

Fave Friday – Hawaii’s Best 24 Hour Eateries?

September 18, 2009

[This topic was a special request by the BIL (Brutha-In-Law). Please help a brutha out. (yeah, literally, my brother) ๐Ÿ˜› ]

Later this year, the shift at BIL’s job will be changing from “normal” to dracula-like, overnightย hours. Other than the complete lifestyle change, one of his main concerns was where to grind after work. He’ll be getting off of work when the rest of us non-zombies will be just waking up, so his “dinner” would essentially be in the wee hours of the morning!

So how about it? Where are your picks for the best 24 hour eateries around Oahu? My pea-sized brain can only think of the easy standards like Zippy’s and Like Like (yeah, I meant to spell it like that ! ๐Ÿ˜› ). What else y’all got?

P.S. Happy VHO7V Friday and have a good weekend y’all! I’ll be back in a couple weeks. Wish me luck with sistah Colbs.ย Shoots!

September 16, 2009

Sorry rayboyjr. We be back to a non-“eye candy” pic this week, but last week was fun for ALL nonetheless… no? 8) Bruddah Takeshi got another WIH victory under his belt by correctly guessing Waianapanapa State Park in the mysterious beach shot where few noticed the black sand. ๐Ÿ˜†

This week, I think/hope we’ve got a toughy. It could be just about any breakfast/lunch/dinner spot in the world state. Let’s see how skilled y’all are wit’ dis one.

Hurrrrr we goooooo!

Fave Friday – Lock Your Desktop Tip

September 11, 2009

A-ight peeps.ย Your boy is finally gonna live up to this blog’s name and provide a helpful computer/web related tip for this here Friday.

Some of you may already know about this one, but I still find myself teaching peeps about thisย underutilized, but VERY helpful tip, especially in the work enviro.

It’s an easy keystroke (for Windows users) that will quickly lock your computer (in a good way). You know, for those times when you gotta go potty one fast one,ย or go gallivanting to lunch for a while… This will essentially lock your screen (as long as you have a password set for your Windows user account) so that any snooping eyes that come around while you’re away will not be able to see/read a thing, and instead, see something like this:

Locked Desktop
Locked Desktop

Kewl yeah?

K, enough with da talk. Here’s the keystroke combo to lock your keyboard:

[Windows key] + L

In other words, if you hold down the Windows key (key with the Windows logo on it) and press the letter “l”, you’ll be all G. Never knew that protecting your sensitive data would be duck soup huh? Go tryum! But make sure you know your password k? Haha! Shoots! Have a good weekend y’all!

Talk to me!
* Did you learn something new today or did you already know about this little gem?
* Got any other keystroke gems to share?
* Which ones do you use most often?
* Any Mac users out there with keyboard shortcut hints/tips to share?
* What other life chores do you wish had a keyboard shortcut? 8)

What Would You Do If YOU Won the Lottery?

September 8, 2009

Here’s a kinda random, but (I think) fun,ย Fun Day Monday (even though it’s Tuesday! ๐Ÿ˜› ) topic.

Recently, Yahoo! Buzz blogged about a lottery winner blowing most of her winnings, and it got me a’ thinking. What the heck MANG! If I won the lottery I would NEVER lose it all! At least that’s what I tell myself now, you know, pre-winnings.

You wouldย think that you’d be responsible and smart with the dollah dollah bills (y’all), but nobody really knows what goes on in a lottery winner’s noggin’ when something like that happens. I’d like to believe that I wouldn’t go crazy on ridiculous things, but who knows. Maybe that 7th Hummer is something I’d really REALLY need! ๐Ÿ˜›

In all seriousness though, I think I’d be pretty good, as long as there aren’t any crazy family members who come out of the woodwork and try to kidnap me. Here’s a list of things I’d probably do with the mad papah. Post yours below k?

* Cribs. Living in the 808, with the home prices the way they are, I’d probably invest in several strategically placed homes to earn regular income for years to come. For fun, maybe even try to buy an entire block. This could theoretically bring all of my family and friends together to live on one street in perfect harmony. Hehe!
* Invest. Like they say, pay yourself first right? I’d throw some in 401K, Roths, savings, etc., just to make sure I’ve got some stored away for a rainy day.
* Buy a pimp G-ride. Because of the unbeatable payments (zilcho), your boy is still drivin’ a car from 1996. I guess I could splurge on a pimpmobile when I win the mega millions. LOL!
* Retire. Depending on how much the pot is, I’d probably consider retiring after the above is making income equal or more to what I make now. Nothing against the current gig, but if you’re making the same amount while sleeping, wouldn’t you do the same? ๐Ÿ˜› Shhhh! No tell on me!
* Travel. I live to travel! There are so many places I want to go, but not enough time (or money). With retirement and a big lottery cash flow, those twoย issues will be instantly solved.
* Take up a hobby. In between trips, I’m gonna have to do something to take up my time before I go crazy (or drive others crazy with my “I’m bored” calls ๐Ÿ˜› ). Maybe I’ll pick up golf again? Surf? Fish? I guess we shall see… 8)

Talk to me!
* What would you do if you won the lottery?
* What are some of the necessities you’d buy?
* Some frivolous thangs?
* Savings?
* Donations?
* Send some to me? 8)
* What hobby do you think I should take up?

Fave Five Friday – Hawaii’s Worst Roads

September 4, 2009

Following up on last week’s fairly active topic of Hawaii’s Worst Parking Lots, let’s go with the next logical topic: Hawaii’s roads. I bet we’ve all got our strong opinions on this one eh?

So goh’on! Post your choices in the comment area below. Hurr’s mine!

  1. Anywhere on H1 during rush hour or when there’s an accidentย – Gaaaaaaah! I have no words.
  2. Piikoi Streetย – trying to catch this to get to Lunalilo Street to get on the H1 Westbound is B-A-N-A-N-A-S!
  3. Lunalilo Street– missing lights because of baboons blocking the intersection from Piikoi. D’oh!
  4. Kalanianaole Highway – not so much for the traffic, but because of the traffic lights. I remember when I used to make this drive to town and I counted the number of lights. It was insane (in the membrane). Like 20 or 30 something!
  5. Hana Highway– sending some love to the neighbor islands. ๐Ÿ˜› This one only because it’s so windy (not the air kine windy) and crazy l’datย and when you get stuck behind one slow drivah… PAU!

While we’re on the topic of roads, who in the heck thought that that onrampย off University Ave (eastbound) was a good idea!?!? First of all, in order to merge onto the H1, you have to go like 0-60 in 2.8 seconds. Plus there is an exit (University) right after your onramp. Bad planning I tell ya! I digress.

I know I’m missing a lot. Chime in below willya!?

Happy VHO7V Friday and have an awesome lonnnnnng weekend k?ย Shoots!

P.S. I know it’s a little late (I just download the pics), but mad props to local boy Brian Viloria (@BrianViloria) for successfully defending his IBF light-flyweight title by defeating Jesus Iribe by unanimous decision in a 12 round war. Check out the pic and action packed 12th round video below.

Congrats goes to carokun for correctly guessing Tantalus last week! She earns her spot on the WIHIES Wall of (slight) Fame! ๐Ÿ˜› Please help me send some love to her!

This week is a tricky one. It’s one of dem places where I’m not sure if they still have this dish, or, whether they’re still in bidness for that matter. LOL! Nah, I think they still stay, but whether or not they have this dish, I dunno… K, nuff hints already. Gogetum gogetum gooo!
