Last week must’ve been too hard. This one won’t be any easier though (I think), but if you live in these neighborhoods, should be duck soup! Chance um!
Last week‘s Winnahs:
* Crack Seed Store (Lia)
* Hoku’s (jknakas)
* Les Murakami Stadium (Lia)
* VH07V on Tiny TV!
Our popular #TarpSurfing Commercial will air on the 3rd television show in as many weeks! Super exciting! This week, we’ll be on Tiny Tadani’s Tiny TV show on OC16 (Oceanic Time Warner Cable channel 12 or HD 1012) airing TONIGHT at 10:30pm and then repeating this Thursday and Friday at 10:30pm!
* Groove Hawaii Now Open!
This past Saturday 2/22, the much anticipated The Groove Hawaii officially opened its doors to the public. On Friday 2/21, as part of a social media event, I had the unique opportunity to preview their facilities during a soft launch opening. Was super fun, especially when you get a bunch of testosterone-filled men trying to get the better of each other on the Go-Kart race track (see pic below)! LOL! You can also play parlor games (arcades & billiards, darts, air-hockey, shuffleboard, etc.), climb a “rock” wall, take Segways tours, ride a Paradise Pedals Party Bike around town, or hold your next party or corporate event there. It’s the closest thing to Castle Park that we’ve had in a loonnnnnng time! Oh the memories. ๐ Hope they do well. Go and support them k? #SupportLocal
* Mailing List
If you haven’t already, be sure to sign up for our mailing list to get the latest scoops! I promise I don’t email too often (takes planny effort you know da kine! ๐ ).

* VH07V Spotted!
This week’s “SPOTTED!” is a music video of the ukulele group Heart & Soul covering Jake Shimabukuro’s song Serano. Heart & Soul is Jody Kamisato, Tj Mayeshiro and Micah Ganiron. Jody is the owner and lead instructor at Ukulele Hale, where Tj and Micah were schooled. You can catch them and other Ukulele Hale students at this year’s Rice Fest as well!
Heart & Soul – Serano
* New Design: “???”
Working on an all-new mystery design, that I don’t want to mention yet because somebody else might steal the idea. Haha. Design is actually pretty basic, but the message is cool (IMO). Hopefully others will feel the same way. ๐ More TBA soon!

Wowzas! Third week in a row with double digit comments. Could it be that we’ve broken out of our new year funk? Hard to say, but let’s keep it going gang! Here are three semi easy ones served up on a silver platter for ya. ๐
Kelly Boy De Lima of Kapena “slayed” it (as usual) at the Ukulele Picnic this past Sunday, and, following his performance, walked by all the vendor booths, showing his Aloha, waving and greeting everyone on his way out. As he came by our VH07V booth, he pointed at my dad and said “I like your shirt!” so right dea… I just HAD to chase him down and give him a shirt for himself. He was as genuine and as real as they get. Not only talented and a true professional, but super humble and a class act. Mahalos Kelly Boy!
* Not counting what I sold at the Ukulele Picnic, I am finally fully loaded with stock, including the three new designs/styles below. Whatchu tink? She go?
Hawaii Self Storage’s Storage Auction – Kaimuki Location
Another exciting storage auction is coming up for Hawaii Self Storage, this time at their 2909 Waialae Ave, Kaimuki location! Registration starts next Tuesday, February 19th at 9am with the auction getting going at 10am. Check it out!
How awesome is this!? This week’s “Spotted” shot for VH07V is of Jesse Sapolu sporting his San Francisco 49ers inspired VH07V with local boy Isaac Sopoaga prior to this past Sunday’s Super Bowl! Hard luck to Isaac and the Niners, but WOW what a game!
Wheeee! Double digit comments last week! It’s a miracle! ๐ Nah, but fo’ real… Mahalo to those of you who continue to check in, week after week. These blogs take fo-evah fo put together so the feedback at least tells me you’re still out there and I’m not just entertaining myself. LOL! Anyway, here are this weeks pics.
This week’s “Spotted” shot for VH07V is of ukulele virtuoso Lance Kawika Lopes, Jr. having dinner at Shirokiya’s Yataimura. Lance is pretty mean on the ukulele as showcased on his Youtube channel.
* I recently ordered a custom VH07V ukulele from the gang at KoAloha Ukulele. Can’t wait to see how it turns out!
* Still waiting on my HUGE re-fill order to come in (the holidays wiped me out)! Hopefully it doesn’t take too much longer.
* Submitted new styles (embroidered wicker type polo, racerbacks for da wahine, etc.) and designs. I should get those in time for the Ukulele Picnic! Yay!
* Speaking of new designs, in a recent poll on Facebook and Instagram, this is the one that got the most votes, so we’ll start printing these ASAP.
I think last week’s video was a bit too difficult because, although we had a handful of Facebook shares via the blog, the comments/guesses were unusually low.
I had another food video queued up and ready to go for this week, but to avoid another slow comment week (hopefully), we’ll try something a lil’ different (yet again). If this doesn’t work, we may just have to go back to good ol’ fashioned photos again. LOL!
The quiz for the video is still the same (guessing Where In Hawaii this is), but you also get to enjoy a bit of “entertainment” while you’re at it. I use the term “entertainment” loosely because it’s yet to be determined if the video is actually entertaining to you. Ahahaha! LMK what you think (good or bad) in the comment area below k?

Once again, Marc Orbito of Hungry eYe Photo continues to impress. Following up our last VH07V photo shoot at Kaka`ako Kool, I hired Marc to help shoot our next scene at the iconic Rainbow Drive-In. With the help of fellow blogger and friend Catherine Toth, I was able to get permission from owner Jimmy Gusukuma (Toth’s friend) to shoot some scenes there for VH07V. Wow, much mahalos Cat and Mr. Gusukuma! What an honor!
Below is a shot from Marc’s collection from that night! Unreal yeah? Can’t wait to see how the rest of the day’s shots turned out. To hire Marc for your photographic needs, be sure to contact him via his Facebook page here: Hungry eYe Photo!
This week’s “Spotted” shot for VH07V is of friend and supporter Jody Kamisato. He owns and operates the very popular ukulele school called Ukulele Hale. Jody is also a member of the Na Hoku Hanohano nominated band Heart & Soul, mentors keiki through his Ukes on the Loose program, and has a regular gig in Aulani’s Starlit Hui show every Monday and Thursday.
VH07V at the Big Boys Toys & MMA Hawaii Expo next month!
Just another reminder that I’ll be at the Big Boys Toys & MMA Hawaii Expo on June 15, 16 and 17 at the Blaisdell. Come visit my booth and say hi k? I’ll have choke New VH07V Products, so come holla atcho boy! Here’s the action-packed schedule for that weekend’s festivities.
As always, a big mahalos to everyone for your support and for helping to spread the VH07V! 8)
And finally… I’m officially a Guinness World Recordsโข Record Holder!
Well, I can’t take all the credit, but it’s pretty exciting nonetheless. ๐
We finally received notification back from the Guinness World Recordsโข folks that our record setting attempt for the “Largest SPAM Musubi” at last year’s Rice Fest was made official. Me, along with the other 20 or so volunteers/participants in the building of the musubi got our names in the record books. Cool right? ๐
Guinness World Recordsโข Certificate
Never satisfied, we’ll be attempting to break our own record for the “Largest SPAM Musubi” at this year’s Rice Fest in September. More info to come when I get it…
Happy April y’all! Had one late night tonight, so I’m basically typing this one with one eye open and da oddah one fast asleep! ๐ More on why I had a late night, but for now, hurrr’s this week’s photo. Hungry yet? 8)

You Can Do It If You Try/Nandemo Dekiru (ใชใใงใใงใใ) – Alvin “Pops” Okami
Earlier tonight, I was fortunate enough to be invited to an event called “KoAloha Mai”, a live webcast of local artists (like Herb Ohta, Jr., David Kamakahi, Jon Yamasato, Manoa DNA, & Pali), hosted and streamed out from KoAloha Ukulele Factory via Channel808.tv. One of the treats of the night was when Alvin “Pops” Okami performed “You Can Do It If You Try/Nandemo Dekiru” a song he selflessly dedicated to the people of Japan who are currently suffering due to the tragic earthquake and subsequent tsunami. Here’s the performance that literally gave me chicken skin! For more information about the song and to find out how you can help, visit KoAloha’s Nippon Relief page here!
It’s been a while, but let’s take a stroll back on memory lane and buss’ another Desert Island game/survey. Y’all know how it works so I won’t get into too much detail explaining it, but fast kine, these are things that you just can’t live without if stuck on a desert island, like, for-EVA.
Today’s Desert Island item: “Hawaiian Treat”.
You can interpret “treat” howevah you like cause it could be anything from food to a foine female (or handsome hunk), but the rule is that it’s gotsta be “Hawaiian”.
Hmmm… I really like Haupia and Kulolo, but I think I’d get large (and in charge) eating that errry day. I LOOOOVE Lau Lau, but I wonder if I’d get tired of it after a while… I guess then, I’d choose:
* Chicken Long Rice.
It could pass as a soup dish, a noodle dish, AND a chicken dish… enough to keep me interested at least for a little while I think. Oh yeah, and
* Primo Beer and an ukulele
Those count as “Hawaiian” right?
Holla!
* What are the “Hawaiian Treats” you’d bring to our Desert Island?ย ย If you say a “Hawaiian” genie in a bottle with three more wishes, I’m gonna die. ๐
* Thoughts on yesterday’s NFL Draft? How did your team do? Thoughts on Tyson Alualu at #10? Am I the only one who thinks Tim Tebow will prove his doubters wrong?
* Thoughts on the NBA playoffs? Isn’t Kevin Durant just a beast!? Feel sorry for Portland? (First Jordan, now this?)
* Thoughts on Roy Halladay’s even-better-than-expected, awesome start for the Phills?
* Thoughts on Jeremy Lay leaving the UH Men’s Basketball program and all of the other activity coach Gib Arnold is up to?
* Gonna order WEC’s first PPV event: Aldo vs. Faber? Who you pickin’? I say Aldo still. Also, not sure if they’re gonna air it, but don’t forget to root for local boy Brandon Visher on the undercard.
* Any exciting plans for the weekend?
* Did you see Brian Kownacki and his Fordham Flip?
I think we’re gonna be helping wifey’s friend with wedding stuff as well as possible house hunting/browsing this Sunday. If you own or know of anyone who owns a reasonably-priced crib in town (Oahu), holla! WWE special discount? 8)
First up. Gotsta give props where props are due. Bruddah kuya.d held it down the last two days with his 209 garnering WIH post. Holy smokes! Much love to all of you who participated in the convo as well! And with that said…
Jason Mraz‘s song “I’m Yours” (whose popularity can actually be traced back to Hawaii’s support) is probably one of the most over played/over done songs in recent history. We’ve seen it on American Idol, all over Youtube, and our very own band Ten Feet even covered it.
Not that that’s a bad thing. Mraz is probably flattered that so many people enjoy his music enough to want to redo it.
Jason Mraz – “I’m Yours”
One band I’ve been grooving out to lately is this a capella band called Straight No Chaser and they have a version of “I’m Yours” (which includes an Iz-ish version of “Somewhere Over the Rainbow”). Pretty cool. Check it.
Straight No Chaser – “I’m Yours/Somewhere Over the Rainbow”
And let’s not forget the cute, little kid who sang “I’m Yours” in this viral hit:
Little Kid on Youtube – “I’m Yours”
So today’s “Fave Friday” be on that very topic: Cover Songs. Rather than just listing the song name and the various artists who covered it though, let’s make things fun and a little more interactive.
Talk to us!
* Write the name of a covered song and wait for the next person commenting to guess who the original artist, as well as those bands who covered it, was/were.
* Write the name of a band, and wait for the next person commenting to guess the covered song(s) and who the original artist(s) was/were.
* Write the name of a song you wish would be covered and by who.
* Link to your favorite version of “I’m Yours”
* Anything else you like add.
K, your turn! ๐

Happy VHO7V Friday! Have a good weekend and I’ll see y’all on Monday! ๐
OK, so last week’s (Desert Island) DVD list seemed to be a pretty decent hit. We even got some lurkers to come out of shadows and post up in hurr. Woo hoo! Hopefully, this post will bring out more. C’mon y’all, don’t be scurred! ๐ This week, let’s go with the next logical list: CDs! Awwwww yeah!
So I don’t need to explain the rules right? Let’s get on with the show! Stuck? Get some help here or here.
Dr. Dre – “The Chronic“ – Dre and Snoop Dogg at their best! Who wants to battle me in “Nuthin’ But A G Thang?” ๐
Shai – “…If I Ever Fall In Love” – Another classic! Used to listen to it going to bed errry night back in the day.
Color Me Badd – “C.M.B.“ – My very first CD purchase (transitioning from cassette tapes)! This one got some miles one it!
Anything Rockapella – These bruthas are insane! You mightย recognize them from their “Where In the World is Carmen Sandiego” song. Their vocal percussionist Jeff Thatcher is amazing (see video below). My dream is to one day see them in person.
Anything Ka`au Crater Boys – Gotta bring the Hawaiian jams right? And who better than the starters of the ukulele craze (to the mainstream). Hopefully, I can bring my uke to the island too. ๐
