First thing’s first. As an MMA fan, I would be remiss if I did not mention tomorrow’s big UFC card that will showcase two of our very own, local, Hawaii boys: Hilo’s BJ Penn and Maui’s Kendall Grove.
Local Boys: Lightweight Champ BJ Penn (left) and Middleweight Contender Kendall Grove (right)
Lightweight champ BJ Penn (remember him?) will be defending his belt against top contender Frankie Edgar, while middleweight standout Kendall Grove will take on wrestler Mark Munoz. See bottom for all the details.

A-ight with that outta the way, let’s get today’s Fave Friday show on the road. Now I know the title says “Sports”, but for those of you who aren’t big fans of the stick and ball kine games, feel free to list “Activities” like hiking or swimming, etc. Here’s my list:
Fave Sports to Watch:
* Baseball – Sooooo happy the 2010 season is under way again! Go “pills” right uncle jimmy? 😛 Don’t know what it is, but I could just sit there and watch a whole game without getting bored at all. * MMA – I used to be all crazy widit and watch every second of every event, but now, with limited watching hours in my day, I pretty much just focus on the UFC, WEC and some Strikeforce events with spot watching of the other ones like Bellator. Even then, I fast forward through the boring fights. I really do miss HDNet and their MMA coverage, especially with Dream. BTW, while we’re on the topic of MMA and local boys, don’t forget to support Brad Tavares who is reppin’ Hawaii on this season’s cast of the Ultimate Fighter, Wednesday nights at 7PM on Spike TV (Oceanic Cable 559 or HD 1559). * Basketball – Orlando’s my team, but I’ll watch good matchups sometimes. UH is fun watching live, but it’s been really depressing the last few years. 😦 * Football (I guess) – only to follow my fantasy players. LOL! Live games at UH are fun too, but I like the tailgating more! 😛 * Boxing – used to watch a lot, until MMA came along and killed it! RIP. 😉
Fave Sports/Activities to Do:
* Snowboarding – snowboarding is life. Period. * Jiu Jitsu – don’t get to roll as much as in the past, but the cognitive part of it is soooo interesting to me. * Baseball/Softball – my first sport ever = my first love. * Basketball – played a lot of hoops in high school and college, but kinda slowed down later in life. I should get back into it again. * Swimming – ever since training for the Tinman, I’ve been itching to get back in the water on the regular. Not only is it a good workout, but you get a mean tan to boot.
So what sports or activities do you like to watch/play? Holla!

K, pau! Sorry. Commercial ova. Have one awesome Friday and weekend gang, and I’ll see you on Monday K!? Shooooots!
I’ve never been a fan of autographs. It’s too easy to forge, and, unless you can verify it and possibly even sell it for a premium, to me, it’s worthless. Celebrities are humans too. Some piece of paper with their chicken scratch on it doesn’t hold much weight. That’s just me.
But, as girly/kiddie as it sounds, what really gets me charged is getting a photo with said celeb. I value this the most because it has significance to me and me alone. I don’t care if it’s worthless to anyone else and ruined cause my ugly mug is in the photo, it’s just good kine fun and proof – in that particular moment in time – that I was there and actually met somebody I could tell a story about.
This past weekend in Philly, I had a blasty blast. Not only did I get that interview with Bruddah Shane, I was also able to sneak in some photo opps with “stars” from the MMA world, thanks to our awesome seats at UFC 101 the night before! Peeps like:
Cutman Jacob “Stitch” Duran
“Stitch” caught the same flight as us from Vegas. Cool guy!
UFC President Dana White
UFC President Dana White taking the time to greet his fans
Fighter Frank Trigg
Newly signed (again) UFC fighter Frank “Twinkle Toes” Trigg. Why does Bari look so upset? 8)
Referee Mario Yamasaki
Referee Mario Yamasaki kept coming into the stands for some reason. I caught him one quick one after the event was pau
Phillie All Star Shane Victorino
Me and Bruddah Shane in the Phillie dugout after our interview
Which led me to this week’s Fave Five question. Which 5 celebs would you most like to have a photo with? If photos ain’t your bag, you can use autographs for your list.
Flavor Flav – OMG! He’s so flamboyant and out there! This would be the funnest photo, like EVER! LOL!
Mr. T – see above! Seems like a nice, humble guy too.
Kimbo Slice – he’s crazy intense, but seems like a cool, mellow cat, outside the ring. I give him mad props for starting from scratch in the coming season of the Ultimate Fighter!
Michael Jordan/Tiger Woods – gods in their respective games, though I’m not sure how good/genuine their personalities would be.
I’m sure I’m missing a lot more, so lemme hear it. Send over your list of celebs you’d like to get a pic with/meet/get an autograph from.
Some celebs I forgot to mention were those that would bring the most cashola to my pocket (when sold to the tabloids). *grin* Maybe a scandalous shot with Jon or Kate, or both? Or Brangelina? Or even the Octo-mom? Is she even relevant anymore? 😛
Anyway, I digress. Have fun with this list on your T.G.I. Friday y’all!
Happy VHO7V Friday and have an awesome weekend k? Shoots!
(Editor’s note: Don’t get me wrong. I ain’t no celebrity stalker/groupie type, as the pictures above may make it seem. LOL! If I had to stand in line and wait a couple hours for one photo, I wouldn’t do it. These just so happen to fall into place a-ight? 😛 )
Let’s try our hand at another episode of “This Is How We Do…”
Last time, we shared our stories (good and bad) about our bathroom habits/rituals. Some (ok just me), worse than others. This week, let’s chat about something most of us gotsta do on the regular… chop the ‘do!
I’m easy. No fancy salon for me. Supercuts all the way. Cheap, easy, convenient. The only problem is that I’m like a rich, ugly bachelor. I can’t keep a girl to save my life.
I swear I’ve been through about 10 “stylists” since I’ve started going there years ago. Every single time I think I have a winnah (knows exactly how I like my hair cut), she moves to another location and out of my life forever.
Dear Supercuts, can you please stop transferring your peeps all ova da place. It would be greatly appreciated. Love, Ed.
OK, so I’m not really playing the game. Alright, alright… This is how I do: Haircuts…
* Make da call – I call my local Supercuts and pray to the heavens that the last stylist who cut my hair is still there…
* Rejoice – if she is
* Get Frustrated – if she’s not
* Hurry up and wait – it ain’t no secret. The time of your appointment is often not the time you sit in that high chair. I’ve learned to book earlier than I arrive or just expect to wait later than my scheduled time.
* Explicame por favor – for once, I’d like to say just sit down and say “gimme the usual,” but with their high turnover rate, I always have to explain what I want. It doesn’t help that my hairstyle has changed many times over the years and I’m never sure what I’m going to request each time. LOL!
* Product placement – I try to find the cleanest part on their counter to place my shades and Aloha Shirt (if I come straight from work). If not, I just hold um with me.
* Sit and pray – since it’s usually a new stylist, I just sit and pray and hope that she can get relatively close to what I’m axeing for.
* Shut the peepers – sometimes, to avoid the awkward face-to-face stares (this also works at the dentist’s office), I will close my eyes when she snips the front of my dome. Sharp things moving around my eyes is but another reason I shut the blinds.
* Make Me Thin – I have a tricky spot on the top left side of my noggin’ that is thicker than the right side. Most times, I have to request the stylist to thin this portion out even more so that both sides look even.
* Shake, rattle and roll – since I wanna minimize the amount of hair that falls in my car and at home, I try to shake my hair/head/clothes to get as much hair off of me as possible.
* Walk of shame – well, only if it’s a bad haircut. 😛 If it’s a good haircut, the walk to the register is not all that bad.
* Tips welcome – I pay for the cut and then I give the stylist my usual 20%. Sometimes more, or sometimes less, depending on the damage or masterpiece they’ve created. 🙂
That’s pretty much it. Where do you guys get your hair cut? What kine cut you get? How much do you pay? Any other odd rituals?
Are you as excited as I am for tomorrow night gang?
It’s the premiere of the 8th season of The Ultimate Fighter, tagged as Team Nogueira vs. Team Mir. Yes, it’s been 8 seasons since Forrest Griffin’s and Stephan Bonnar’s historic fight that (re-)started it all. Not much has really changed as far as editing and format, but there’s just something about this show that has me glued.
I can honestly say that I’d probably watch the 600th season of this damn show. As long as they keep showing it, I’ll keep a’ watching. Are you in the same boat as me or do you think the show is getting old already? If so, what do you think they need to do to spice it up? I think Mir will make things interesting for the kids, but Nogueira, I’m not too sure.
Hawaii’s got another guy to root for this season: 24 year old Shane Nelson from BJ Penn’s MMA team in Hilo. Don’t really know much about him, but here’s a video I dug up on Youtube. Aside from the booger that was bothering him (in BOTH nostrils no less!) *grin* , he looks like a scrapper. Good luck this season Shane! We’ll be rooting for ya!
* The Ultimate Fighter: Team Nogueira vs. Team Mir: Wednesday, September 17, 2008 @ 7PM on Spike TV (Oceanic Digital Channel 0559). Don’t forget to also catch a new UFC Fight Night (Nate Diaz vs. Josh Neer) at 5PM preceding TUF.
Talk to Me!
* Are you hooked on The Ultimate Fighter too?
* What is your reality TV show du jour?
* Are you proud/happy when Hawaii peeps make it to the big stage?

The Contender Muay Thai: Prepare to watch the fight that is known as “The Science of Eight Limbs.” These fights feature punches, kicks, elbows, knees and head-butts to wear down and knock out their opponent.
So I admittedly haven’t been home long enough to sit down and watch back the entire episode of Wednesday’s the Ultimate Fighter show, but my Google Reader told me that the meathead who got eliminated (due to the kicking out of the limo window) was Jesse Taylor. No surprise. What did surprise, yet delight me was to see that Amir Sadollah moved on to the finale, which meant one thing. Arrogant/Cocky CB Dollaway lost! YES!
So this morning, I had to do a quick fast forward/rewind recap of the show on my DVR to see exactly what happened.
* FF – through Amir vs. CB match * Stop & Rewind – to watch armbar setup and execution * Play – through post fight wrap-up and interviews (don’t you hate it when people say their own name in the 3rd person? – “CB Dollaway” – so irras!) * FF – to Jesse incident and Dana’s speech to him * FF – through CB vs. Tim Credeur match (noticed it went three rounds. Gotta love and respect Tim.)
So now it’s Amir Sadollah vs. CB Dollaway 2 for the Ultimate Fighter finale on Spike TV tomorrow night (Digital Channel 0559 @ 6PM). When there were four men left, this is the matchup I wanted for the finale anyway. Let’s just see if Amir can pull off the upset again. CB is way too strong and talented, and will no doubt make it as a fighter, but I just hate how conceited he is about it. Amir seems humble and appreciative of everything and you just want to see someone like that win it all. Plus, he can scrap no?
TGIF folks. Have a good weekend!
Talk to me!
* Who do you want to win? CB or Amir?
* What do you think of Tim Credeur? What a good guy yeah?
* What are your big plans this weekend?

If I missed anything, send it on over and I’ll add it to the list. Thanks!
I’ve been sitting here with a blank look on my face for about 10 minutes now. There’s a lot of pressure to come up with that ever-so captivating topic for my first, “real” post. This is THE post that what will set the tone for what will be the greatest blog of all time. *cue evil organ music* Muhahaha! Ok, so I’m getting WAAAAY ahead of myself, but I hope you can empathize with the angst I face.
I thought about covering the MMA scene to start, but I’m really not sure how many fans of blood are out there yet (or ever?). Then, I thought about delving into the world of reality shows. What better way to start than to use the words Flavor Flaaaaaaav and Justinbobby in the same sentence right?
Instead of stressing myself out thinking about what will work best in the world of the yet unknown, I decided to start personal and feel all y’all out. From there, I can hopefully gauge what the interests are and write accordingly. In reading some of the other posts, I noticed that polls or open ended question-type posts worked pretty well, so let’s go with that shall we?
[start of real blog (in case you don’t want to waste your time with the above 😛 )]
So recently, our company completed a weight loss challenge. The winning team lost a whoppin’ 12.95% in body percentage, with one guy losing like 70 pounds. Good lord! Our team, on the other hand, didn’t do so hot (6.66%), but I was miraculously able to gut out 21 pounds. OK, so my weigh-in weight was an inflated amount, thanks to burgers and shakes the week before, but still, for dis skinny dude, 21 big ones ain’t bad right?
I wanted to lose as much as I could during the contest, but in the back of my mind, I knew that once it was over, your boy was gonna pig out and get back to normal. Sounds easy enough right? I guess I didn’t count on one thing. My metabolism is not cooperating with me.
Damn you metabolism!
The first 5 pounds were cake to gain back (no pun intended). It’s the next 5-7 pounds (where I probably should be at) that is giving me a heckuva time. While most plateau going down in weight, bruddah ova here is stuck going back up. What to do, what to do.
So my question to you cyber-peeps out there is how do you like to pound? I’m particularly interested in food that makes you go ughhhh! (2 bonus points for those of you who caught that C&C Music Factory reference)
I need to gain my weight (and sanity) back, and would like your best Kanak Attack tips on how to do so. Fatten me up folks, puhleeeeaz. 😛
Tonight’s Reality Show Lineup set to record on my DVR:
American Idol (Top 5 Elimination Show: One of the five finalists is voted off; Neil Diamond and Natasha Bedingfield perform) – 8PM-9PM on KHON2
– I’m picking Jason Castro to leave us tonight. You?
The Ultimate Fighter (Jeremy May’s behavior rubs his fellow fighters the wrong way, putting him in the cross hairs as a potential opponent for Team Forrest; a controversial result causes one coach to unleash his fury.) – 7PM-8PM on SpikeTV
– Rampage goes on a rampage. I can’ t wait to see it!
E:60 7PM-8PM on ESPN2
– No program info yet, but we shall see…
Lastly, no fo-get to give me some feedback on what you want me to talk about, yo!
