Hawaii Five-0: Hana `A`a Makehewa #H50

December 14, 2010

First off, big mahaloz to Chicken Grease, effenprincess and NeedaHobby for filling in (on short notice) last week with their guest posts! Your boy had to go on one business trip for Road Runner Mobile one quick one, so they chipped in and helped to keep our `ohana entertained up in hurr! Big ups!

I had CHOKE errands to do at home last night so I was finally able to sit down and watch an episode of Hawaii Five-0 in real time. And what better way to “watch” it than to join in on the #H50 convos going on simultaneously in the Twitterverse right?

Last night’s episode was called “Hana `A`a Makehewa“, which translates to Desperate Measures. Here’s the show’s synopsis:

“It’s Christmas in Hawaii, but instead of celebrating, Five-0 is negotiating a hostage situation when Victor Hesse, the man who killed McGarrett’s father, threatens to detonate an explosive that he’s strapped to Chin Ho’s chest.”

So wot? What’d you guys think?

Some possible talking points for us:

  • How sad was Danno’s Christmas tree? Hehe!
  • “Your house, your king’s English.” LOL!
  • Ikalani = Ihilani?
  • Chin Ho’s use of rice to pull the moisture off the SIM card. Gooooo @ricefest, er rice! 8)
  • Was that local MMA Fighter Harris Sarmiento in the chicken fight scene? First Niko Vitale and now him. Casting directors must be MMA fans! Sweet!
  • Danno’s hilarious quote, “Next time, shoot him in the face!”
  • Danno calling Sang Min (Will Yun Lee) the “Asian John Travolta”. LOL!
  • Since when was Bar 35 a private hostess bar in Nu`uanu?
  • Was that an Android app that they used to track Sang’s ankle tracker? DROID! 😛
  • Do coppers really have 28.5 mill just lying around like that in a secret asset forfeiture locker? If so, can somebody make me a copy of that blueprint please? 8)
  • I’ve swear we’ve all had a run in with a niele ol’ lady like that no!?
  • Wasn’t it just off hearing Chin Ho tell Kono “aloha” in that context? Didn’t care for that usage very much…
  • I almost cried seeing da $10 mill go bye bye in the fire. LOL!
  • Loved Na Leo reppin’ it with their Christmas song Kana Kaloka (Here Comes Santa Claus)!
  • How about another former local boy sighting with Mark Dacascos as the evil villain Wo Fat?
  • Alex O’Loughlin. Grace Park. That is all. 😛

In other news…

  • Finally catching up with my show The Sing-Off and watched back the first episode of this new season off my DVR. Woah! Committed’s rendition of Maroon 5’s “This Love” was off the chain!
  • Cliff Lee is heading back to my Phills son! Awwww yeah!
  • Any other Fantasy Football teams out there hurt this week by the Aaron Rodgers concussion dammit!?
  • Top Chef. That is all.

What Ever Happened To…?

August 23, 2010

So the other week, my beloved blunt friend Todd tells me that my blog is boring these days and that I needed to spice things up. He misses how I used to post every day.

Granted posting Where In Hawaii every Wednesday has become somewhat repetitious, I had to remind him that to post that one blog a week, I still had to:

1) take the photo
2) edit the photo
3) collect and calculate the stats from the week before
4) write the blog
5) read each and every comment
6) reply to each and every comment
7) rinse and repeat

Oh, and did I mention that I wasn’t getting paid a penny for this, and that my new position at work (my real job) is owning me?

I wasn’t complaining really. I actually agreed that I should be blogging more, but I just had to let my friend know the dealio, real quick-like.

So here I be. Attempting to keep y’all troops entertained. 😉 With Cat’s shocking announcement last week, it looks like there are less and less of us bloggers doing so dese days das why! :

What Ever Happened To…?
So in honor of Todd, who is single btw (*grin*), let’s do a “What Ever Happened To…” blog today about meeting people/places. The idea behind “What Ever Happened To…” is to let us take a trip down memory lane and take a look back at how things were back in the day. If this goes well, we can continue it with different topics. Today’s topic: Meeting People/Meeting Places.

When I was growing up, cruising Waiks was where it was at. We would go round and round and round on Kuhio Ave – for hours on end – in the hopes of talking to those hotties in da Honda. Some of my old older co-workers used to talk about this thing called socials where clubs/groups from one high school would go out with clubs/groups from another high school. I have no idea what that is, but the concept sounds ingenious! LOL! Anyway, in the comment area below, feel free to post your favorite place to meet people. Maybe even share the story of how/where you met your wife/husband/bf/gf? Lord knows, Todd needs the help. Ahahaha!

Are You Ready for Some (Fantasy) Football!?
On a side note, we’re starting up the WWE Fantasy Football League again. If you’re interested in playing with us, post your interest in the comment area below and I’ll send you the invite. Last year’s rankings:

1) kuya.d
2) BananaFysh
3) mypassionbucketisfull
4) Coconut Willy
5) che
6) bB
7) WWE
8 ) NeedaHobby
9) soogs
10) Stickit

Shooooooooooooooots! Happy Monday y’all!

Fun Day Monday: Memorization Tactics

July 26, 2010

Gooooooood morning yo! Yep, it’s Fun Day Monday and your boy is here to post once again. Two Mondays in a row now? Miracle ain’t it?

Well, there’s actually a good reason…

Aside from missing y’all very dearly this weekend (as, I’m sure you did me 😛 ), my ugly mug is supposed to be donning the cover of today’s print edition of our wonderful Star Advertiser, bringing a whole new set of readers (well, hopefully) to WWE.

AURIIITE!

So here we be, with an oldie but goodie, Fun Day Monday blog. Dust off your keyboards and comment awayyyy kay!?

A while ago, our friend Rox shared her method of how she remembers her friends’ license plates… She takes the first three letters of the plate and makes a catchy phrase out of it. For example: RBP would be Ronie Brings Peanuts, GVT would be Good Virgin Teacher, and PJN would be PaJama Nighty. Ahahaha! Eh, no ack! I know you do the same! LOL!

And speaking of license plates, let’s not forget about kuya.d‘s now legendary suggestion of VH07V on a previous “Custom Plates” blog (see comment #12)! Huuuu, dat be some history right dea!

VH07V Vanity License Plate
VH07V Vanity License Plate

Anywho, let’s hear some of your memorization tactics. Can be with license plates or anything else. Maybe you can use Michael Scott’s tactics?

http://widget.nbc.com/videos/nbcshort_at.swf?CXNID=1000004.10045NXC&widID=4727a250e66f9723&clipID=994221&showID=22&configXML=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.nbc.com%2Fservice%2Fvideowidget%2Fparams%2FdmlkZW9faWQ9OTk0MjIx%2F&initXML=http://www.nbc.com%2FThe_Office%2Fvideo%2Fepisodes%2Finit.xml?videoId=994221

On a side note, here’s a feel good mini-story: This past weekend, I flew over to Maui to help out at our Road Runner Mobile booth at the Maui Spam Jam. Amongst other things, we were giving away one brand new SpongeBob SquarePants skateboard every hour. There was a cute kid named Jarrett there who signed up early on to try and win one of the skateboards. Hour after hour, he would come back to our booth to see if we had drawn names yet and if the name we had drawn was his. He just would not give up.

As the show started to come to a close, we had one more name left to draw. Jarrett was nowhere to be found. We figured he had either given up or left. Either way, the show had to continue. Bruddah Joel (da man from the Maui’s division) was about to pull the last name, but instead of pulling it himself, he decided to let one of two young girls pull the name. They too had been hanging around the booth for most of the day hoping to win the skateboard.

In an unbelievable twist of fate, the girl pulled Jarrett’s entry!!! Joel and I were floored! Something was in the air… It had to be divine intervention!

Making things more fairytale-like, we found out from Jarrett’s mom that little Jarrett was actually recently hit by a car and has been going through months and months of rehab to get his walking back to form. On top of that he is also an avid collector of skateboards.

WOAH! Talk about chicken skin!

Here’s a shot of Jarrett with his new skateboard (along with Joel).

Jarrett and Joel
Jarrett and Joel

Congrats Jarrett! All the best to you!

K, so once you clear the tears from your eyes 8) , here’s the stuffs you can choose to comment about below if you like:

* What kind of memory tactics do you use?
* Creative words for the 3 letters in your license plate.
* Comments about the clip (above) from The Office.
* Comments about Jarrett or his story.
* Favorite things to do, places to eat, etc., in Maui.
* Comments about fate, and/or how things work out.
* How your weekend was.
* Randomness.
* How you, as a new reader, love me. 😛
* How you, as an old reader, missed me. 😉
* Hijacking topics.
* Anyt’ing and erry-thing.

A-ight peeps. Have a great last week of July!

P.S. Was good to see bB (again) and meet his wife, and also meet NeedaHobby for the first time IRL! Thanks for coming out to the show! 🙂

Where In Hawaii is Edward Sugimoto? – November 18, 2009

November 18, 2009

Thanks to hemajang‘s generosity (with his submitted photo) and the Veterans Day holiday, it’s been almost a month since I’ve had to go through my archives to hunt for a WIH worthy photo. Wow, has it really been that long?

MakiSushi was on the verge of making WIH history 😛 by pulling off the back-to-back-to-back turkey, but was stumped with my Maui photo (sorry Maks! 😦 ). Local girl NeedaHobby, however, repped it valley style, and won with her Papalaua Beach Park guess on the wessssssiiiiiide of da island!

This week, we’re back to da eats. (Sorry my hungry children! 😉 ) For those who’ve been, I’m guessing this one will be another easy one. But who knows… Maybe there are many places around the state dat serve sammiches dat look la’dis!? We shall see… Post your guesses below peeps!

Are You Ready For Some (Fantasy) Football?

August 17, 2009

By popular demand (from about 3 of you), we’ve started up a WWE Fantasy Football League and are calling all interested playaz. If you’re interested, please email me at world.wide.ed@gmail.com and I’ll send you all the league info.

The good news is that I really suck, so you’re at least guaranteed a 2nd to the last place finish. 😛

In the meantime, can you help a brutha out and post your suggested top 5-10 draft choices in the comment area below? From what I’m hearing Adrian Peterson is the consensus #1. I have the 3rd pick in my work league (there’s a trophy and errything!) and am wondering what kinda gems I could get there.

Other possible things to post below could be your fantasy sports victory or defeat stories, your draft strategies, making a party out of your draft day, your favorite fantasy player, your favorite NFL team, etc.

Yeah, I realize this is a pretty narrow topic and probably won’t get much action below, but it’s a good excuse to further our WWE bonding outside of this blog no? 🙂

Guest Blog: Is It Any Wonder? [NeedaHobby]

June 30, 2009

First and foremost, I would like to thank Ed for this opportunity to be a guest blogger. I’m thankful for making new friends through this blog, even though we have never met IRL. Thanks Ed for creating that environment!

So anyways, I think I might’ve mentioned before that I am a huge music lover. I have a collection of close to a 1000 CD’s (it’s hard to get an exact number because hubby and I merged collections after we got married – we had lots of duplicates to sell!). I know, I know, in this day and age, you would think that I would just download the songs. But, I guess I’m old-skool in that I would rather buy the CD and rip the songs into MP3’s. There’s just something I like about having the “hard copy” with CD artwork and liner notes.

There are certain artists (U2, Madonna, REM come to mind) that are able to crank out hit after hit, album after album with tons of success. But, what about those artists who (sadly) hit their prime after only one song? The 1980’s seem to have had a lot of one-hit wonders. I’m not sure if they necessarily had a lot more than other decades, or that I just remember them because they were songs I grew up with.

I think most will remember “Take on Me” by A-ha.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JohoUZ1U91A

What about “Too Shy” by Kajagoogoo?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3P6I4pT_tVA

Or, “Safety Dance” by Men Without Hats?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5qW0Edq1KqI

And, Soft Cell’s, “Tainted Love”?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8cCI_XDQWb0

Got any one-hit wonders to add? If you have a website link, or a story related to that song, please share that too. And, to help Ed’s post count, let’s try posting one song per post. !O7VHVW

Fave Five Friday: Reality Show Couples

June 26, 2009

So it was recently reported that Jon and Kate Gosselin have filed for divorce. Gee, who saw that one coming?

Along those lines, we’ll go with that theme for this week’s Fave Five blog: Fave Five Reality Show Couples. I needs ta be honest though. I’m more excited to fill out the least fave list. Let’s see what we come up with shall we?

Fave Five Reality Show Couples:

  1. Flavor Flav + Anyone– you gotsta love his passion and honesty for trying to find true love on “Flavor of Love.” And, although he’s admirably decided to stay with his baby’s mama following the 3rd and last season, a part of me still wants him to keep going. Can’t get enough of that guy man! LOL!
  2. Travis Barker + Shanna Moakler – although they’ve had a lot of drama following them in the news, I was a fan of their show “Meet the Barkers” back in the day.
  3. Nick Lachey + Jessica Simpson – how can you not like both of them? They seemed to be nice peoples, at least individually… Maybe their life timing was just not right? I secretly wouldn’t mind seeing them get back together and film another season of “Newlyweds”. 8)
  4. New York + Tailor Made – I don’t really like Tailor Made, but he and New York (Tiffany Pollard) were like the most unlikely of couples, so “I Love New York” was just fun to watch. Like a train wreck I couldn’t look away from. 😛
  5. Jeff Conaway + Vikki Lizzi – one word: dysfunctional. Not sure why I wasted hours of my life watching “Celebrity Rehab” but they were also fun/ridiculous to watch.

Bottom Five Reality Show Couples:

  1. Spencer Pratt + Heidi Montag – these two are number 1 on the hated list and won’t ever get overtaken. Why does anyone even care what they’re up to? I have no clue. Gotta hand it to Spencer for his decent marketing skills though.
  2. Jon Gosselin + Kate Gosselin – again… who cares!?
  3. Britney Spears and Kevin Federline – ditto
  4. Christopher Knight + Adrianne Curry – again…
  5. Audrina and Justin-Bobby – need I say more?

If making your list proves too challenging, feel free to just dish/vent about any of the above (or others you love/despise).

Happy VHO7V Friday y’all! Have a good weekend! I’m off to Alaska (Bon Voyage!), but be sure to check in for some exciting blogs ahead:

* Monday, June 29“BJ Penn Answers Your Questions! [Video]”– Remember the questions you guys submitted for BJ Penn last month? I caught Bruddah BJ on tape answering those questions! This one will be promo’d on the front page of the physical paper as well. Support the ’tiser and pick up a copy k?
* Tuesday, June 30– Sistah NeedaHobby holds it down with a blog of her own called “Is It Any Wonder?”, featuring convo and video clips of those one hit wonders we love from yesteryear.
* Wednesday, July 1 – A special edition of “Where In Hawaii Is Edward Sugimoto” is all queued up for y’all! 8)
* Thursday, July 2tita leerz represents with her amusing blog: “Family Reunions: Characters Wanted”
* Friday, July 3 – takin’ a break since it’ll be a holiday for most of us anyway. Happy 4th of July!
* Monday, July 6– props to sistah skycastles (who was originally scheduled for the 29th) for closing out the guest blogging week with a bang with her “Name That Tune Summer Redux” blog.

Support your fellow WWE community peeps and comment away a-ight? Have a good one y’all! See you next month! 🙂

Happy Birthday to WWE-eeeeee!

April 28, 2009

A year ago to the day, the world was fortunately unfortunately exposed to the mind of me, and I hereby apologize.

You see, the peeps at the ’tiser opened thangs up for me in the backend *snicker* and shortly thereafter, the first ever World Wide Ed blog (to the Advertiser community) – simply entitled “Aloooooha!” – was born (in the USA)!

Things were slow at first, as I tried to find my place amongst the big dogs *woof WOOF* like Stephen Tsai’s “The Warrior Beat,” and Catherine Toth’s “The Daily Dish,” but eventually, I found my virtual footing and carved a cozy little niche out for myself and you fun, faithful readers.

Hoooo! I can’t believe it’s already been a year! *wipes away Visine induced tears* As some of you mentioned in yesterday’s blog, time really does fly when you’re having fun eh? It still amazes me that there were THAT many topics to write about on the daily. Sure, I did miss a few days here and thurr due to travel, holidays, and a little thing called a wedding, but for the most part, I was pretty on top of it wouldn’t ya say?

In fact, if my math is correct (and don’t truss’ me ’cause I suck at math), I probably wrote about 261 posts, give or take a few.

365 (days in the year)
– 104 (weekend days)
—————————————–
= 261 actual week days of possible WWE blogs

OK, I checked out our backend *snicker* and saw that I actually posted 200 fitty blogs! (I tol’ you my math sucks!) Either way, I think that’s quite a feat if I do say so myself. *bends over and waits for a pat on the back* (*snicker*) In theory, if I continue this blog on that torrid pace for the next 30 years of my life, I would’ve bored you to tears with 7,500 posts! Seventy five HUNNY!

Scurred?

Don’t be.

It’ll be all good in the ‘hood going forward. Trust.

I think I’m finally getting the hang of this. No more posts about nails, my broken mandible or MMA. I heard you (or rather, I didn’t hear you at all in the comments) loud and clear. Jeez, and it only took me a year to finally get it! Ha!

Mahalos to each and errry one of you for reading. E Komo Mai to those coming by way of seeing my spooky face in today’s paper. Whether you’re new and this is your first hit of WWE, or you need to be sent to WWEA pretty soon, I send mad love to you! Please continue to read and post your feedback in the comment area. That’s really what keeps me going. I love reading and interacting with the `ohana we got goin’ on here. You guys are the ones who make this blog fun for me! Keep it up yo!

Talk to me (Help a brutha improve WWE)!

In fact, it was so good that it jump started my drive to make this place good), giving away free movie passes to readers like JMAW, Miss Priss, and liane, talking high school supremacy shmack with frankie, celebrating the Phillies’ World Series victory with uncle jimmy, starting and growing the Where in Hawaii series (and being flattered by a few copycats 8) ), scratching my head at Helen‘s ridiculous comments, the funny wedding jokes and videos like the Best Man Blunder Video, making up nicknames for all of you, the thank yous for my periodic PSA posts, the turning point from single digit daily comment counts to double digit daily comment counts (woo hoo!), assigning roles (hunter, chef, law enforcement, etc.) on our desert island, the birth of Scott‘s boy, standing up to tita leerz (and getting pwned! in the process), brightening the start of your work week with Fun Day Mondays, getting my blogs hijacked for totally unrelated topics 😛 , the moderation bot’s strange rules/flags, kuya.d‘s successful “Prom Songs” guest post, the “Good Morning”‘s from M, the lowdown from the female perspective from snow, NeedaHobby, skycastles, kako_mochi, kate, YN and mcat, the sage lecturing advice from hemajang, MakiSushi, Coconut Willy, Kage and Kel Sr. (and jr.), the humor of Ynaku, bB, and rayboyjr, the periodic appearances of Dave, Syxx, BananaFysh, S Ticket, che, zzzzzz, Lose Money, soogs, miLL-viLLe, EMM386, HNL2LAS, Paco, Takeshi, MoOgooGuypAN, L, and Bre, being the first ’tiser blogger to break the Susan Boyle story, collecting names for our future WWE Fantasy Football league, seeing new faces come out of lurk mode, learning what VHO7V meant, and much more! Keep the memories a-comin’!

* What’s the biggest thing that happened to you in the last year? – Hands down, da big dance, fo shizzle.

* What do you hope to do in the next year? – Plan and take an RV trip, interview more Hawaii celebs (BJ Penn, Shane Victorino, Colbie Caillat, holla atcho boy!), etc.

Thanks again for sticking with me for the last year. Here’s to another 7,250 or so y’all (yeah, I used a calculator for that one… whut!?)! Hehe, Shooooots!
