Happy 4th of July eve! Wat you guys get planned for tomorrow?
To go along with the theme, 2 of this week’s 3 photos are fireworks related. The third is just a random easy one that I figured I’d throw in there. Haha! Guess away!
* Youtube Project
Partnering up with my buddy Shibby Stylee again, I’m looking to shoot a fun project for VH07V on Youtube in the coming weeks. Watch um when it comes out k? 🙂
* Reloaded with Stickers!
After being nearly sold out of everything, I finally got my re-order for stickers in, so I am fully loaded with all colors and sizes ranging from 2″, 7″, 10.5″ to even 30″ and our new “Shaka” design. Check out the Sticker Category on our web site for all options.
* Hats In!
I got all but one of my hats reloaded, included three brand new styles. Whatchu tink?
Now that we’re in the midst of summer, we’ve gotsta find ways of cooling off from that hot Hawaiian sun. One way, of course, is to slurp down a local fave known as “shave ice” – or “ice shave” if you’re from the Big Island 😉 (See my article about other shave ice places here). The place I love to go to get my shave ice fix whenever I’m in town is Kaka`ako Kool on Queen Street, next to Fresh Cafe.
Outside Kaka`ako Kool
Opened in June 2010 by antique and collectible fan Keith Tanaka, Kaka`ako Kool is chock full of, well, antiques and collectibles. They sit right alongside the many other offerings Kaka`ako Kool serves like cold drinks, ice cream, chips, crack seed, and much more. It’s like a cool, urban mini mart that happens to sell ono shave ice.
Some of the snack offerings at Kaka`ako Kool
Tanaka goes to the swap meet at least once a week and displays his finds throughout the store. People actually come to the store regularly specifically to see what new toys Tanaka has brought in.
The Thing is quite excited to be here at Kaka`ako Kool
For their shave ice offerings, there are about 25 different flavors to choose from with strawberry being the most popular. Store Manager Jana Park says that the tropical flavors like Pineapple, Mango, and Lychee also do quite well.
Just a few of the many flavors Kaka`ako Kool offers
In addition, you can order locally made, premium haupia or vanilla ice cream, azuki beans, mochi balls, condensed milk, snowcap (condensed milk & evaporate milk), or lihing powder to go along with your shave ice.
So the next time you’re in need of a shave ice fix to beat that summer heat, stop by and say hi to Jana folks at Kaka`ako Kool. There’s lots of parking with 2 stalls right in front and about 15 or so in the garage to the left of the store.
For further info, here’s a profile video the Skinny Hawaiians did on Kaka`ako Kool.
Sorry for not posting last week Wednesday y’all. In addition to getting owned at work with all kine corp visitors coming in and out, I went out of commission with a stomach flu. 😦 And even though I’m coughing with shmall kine congestion now, my fingers can still move so this post will not be denied! Haha!
Is everybody’s March going a-ok so far? I hope so! I got one month left in my body fat loss competition with friends. This sickness probably didn’t help (I haven’t been able to work out for more than a week now), but hopefully, I can get back to it soon. Anyway, here are this week’s pics! Hopefully, none are repeats. LOL! Good luck!
Out of thousands of entries, two of Hawaii’s brightest developers (Ryan Kanno and Austen Ito) were selected to be a part of this year’s StartupBus tour. Their mission? To develop a cool new startup during their bus ride that will debuted at SxSW in Austin Texas! Now that they’ve arrived and are in waiting mode before their projects (readin.gs & jobber.io) are judged, they’re looking to make the biggest social media impact while there. If you could help me support them by going to this link: http://americas.startupbus.com/2013/hawaii-represented-at-startupbus-look-out-for-readingsftw-and-jobberio/ and leaving a comment, they may have a chance to win that award too!
This week’s “Spotted” shot features Bruddah Bryan from the Skinny Hawaiians. He is wearing a Blue/Green VH07V Logo colorway during the Skinny Hawaiians’ visit with Jana Park at Kakaako Kool to learn more about the art of shaving ice.

* Other than hats (currently running low on some of them), I think I finally have a decent stock of inventory. Whew! Let’s see how long that lasts. 🙂
* Although the sales have been going pretty good for the new stuff like the moisture wicking polo) and the “Shaka” designs, I’ll probably start looking into releasing a few new style/designs, including the ballot-winning one below, in the coming months.
* Super stoked to announce that VH07V has been selected as one of only 10 crafters to get into this year’s SPAM Jam festival in Waikiki taking place next month (Saturday, April 27 @ 4pm-10pm). Come on down and visit us at the booth k?
Here’s a remixed video Hawaii Self Storage recently released featuring former UH standout and CFL world champion Chad Owens, whom they interviewed prior to him going OFF last season! Which reminds me… I’m supposed to try and line up an interview with him too. Start thinking of questions to ask him if ya got um. 🙂

Had a fun time hanging out with some old & new friends last night. You may even reconotice _____ Chang and _____ Toth above from the ol’ blogging days on the Honolulu Advertiser. Awwww, the memories…
Fellow Ramen fanatic _____Suyeoka (middle) rounded up a bunch of us foodie types to experience ______ Ramen one more time before it closes. Can you guess where it is?

As part of the “local media”, I have been invited on board Hawaiian Airlines’ inaugural flight to Brisbane Australia departing in a couple of weeks on the 27th. It will be the only nonstop flight there from Hawaii and the second to Australia (Sydney being the other city) through Hawaiian. My social media friends and counterparts got to enjoy some of the previous inaugural flights Hawaiian took (Tokyo, Osaka, Fukuoka, Seoul, New York City and Sapporo), and I could only live vicariously through them, so getting the opportunity myself is pretty dang exciting and quite humbling. Look for some Australian pics & posts from me along the way mate. And if you have any suggestions on what to do or eat, let a brutha know!
In the past, I’ve done ramen, poke, pho, shave ice, acai and more, but I’ve been asked to do this one on numerous occasions so I thought I’d finally put it together… Saimin Adventures – The Search for Hawaii’s Best Saimin – Part I. Check it out when you have some time and let me know if you have any suggestions for additional saimin joints to hit up!
This week’s “Spotted” shot for VH07V features a super talented, local photographer and friend Marc Orbito. Marc, who is the man behind Hungry eYe Photo, took this shot of himself with the Blue/Green colorway because he kinda blended in with the Apple Store Geniuses. Funny with the timing as we just wrapped up a family photo sesh with Marc, and if the one photo he sent over is any indication (he also did my VH07V photo shoots at Kaka`ako Kool & Rainbow Drive In), I know the rest of the photos are gonna be off the hook… as expected! Contact Marc/Hungry eYe Photo for your photographic needs k?

I think last week’s video was a bit too difficult because, although we had a handful of Facebook shares via the blog, the comments/guesses were unusually low.
I had another food video queued up and ready to go for this week, but to avoid another slow comment week (hopefully), we’ll try something a lil’ different (yet again). If this doesn’t work, we may just have to go back to good ol’ fashioned photos again. LOL!
The quiz for the video is still the same (guessing Where In Hawaii this is), but you also get to enjoy a bit of “entertainment” while you’re at it. I use the term “entertainment” loosely because it’s yet to be determined if the video is actually entertaining to you. Ahahaha! LMK what you think (good or bad) in the comment area below k?

Once again, Marc Orbito of Hungry eYe Photo continues to impress. Following up our last VH07V photo shoot at Kaka`ako Kool, I hired Marc to help shoot our next scene at the iconic Rainbow Drive-In. With the help of fellow blogger and friend Catherine Toth, I was able to get permission from owner Jimmy Gusukuma (Toth’s friend) to shoot some scenes there for VH07V. Wow, much mahalos Cat and Mr. Gusukuma! What an honor!
Below is a shot from Marc’s collection from that night! Unreal yeah? Can’t wait to see how the rest of the day’s shots turned out. To hire Marc for your photographic needs, be sure to contact him via his Facebook page here: Hungry eYe Photo!
This week’s “Spotted” shot for VH07V is of friend and supporter Jody Kamisato. He owns and operates the very popular ukulele school called Ukulele Hale. Jody is also a member of the Na Hoku Hanohano nominated band Heart & Soul, mentors keiki through his Ukes on the Loose program, and has a regular gig in Aulani’s Starlit Hui show every Monday and Thursday.
VH07V at the Big Boys Toys & MMA Hawaii Expo next month!
Just another reminder that I’ll be at the Big Boys Toys & MMA Hawaii Expo on June 15, 16 and 17 at the Blaisdell. Come visit my booth and say hi k? I’ll have choke New VH07V Products, so come holla atcho boy! Here’s the action-packed schedule for that weekend’s festivities.
As always, a big mahalos to everyone for your support and for helping to spread the VH07V! 8)
And finally… I’m officially a Guinness World Recordsâ„¢ Record Holder!
Well, I can’t take all the credit, but it’s pretty exciting nonetheless. 😉
We finally received notification back from the Guinness World Recordsâ„¢ folks that our record setting attempt for the “Largest SPAM Musubi” at last year’s Rice Fest was made official. Me, along with the other 20 or so volunteers/participants in the building of the musubi got our names in the record books. Cool right? 🙂
Guinness World Recordsâ„¢ Certificate
Never satisfied, we’ll be attempting to break our own record for the “Largest SPAM Musubi” at this year’s Rice Fest in September. More info to come when I get it…

On Sunday, we had our very first photo shoot for the VH07V line and I’m supah excited to see how the photos came out! We shot wifey’s two cousins (brother and sister combo) in a very Hawaii-ish Shave Ice scene. Here’s a look behind the scenes. Looks legit right? 😉
Special mahaloz to the following, in no particular order:
Jana and Kaka`ako Kool for allowing us to shoot on your property and for feeding us your bomb shave ice! (Give them a visit at: 831 Queen Street, Honolulu, HI 96813, Mon-Fri: 8am-6pm, Sat:11am-4pm)!
Marc Orbito of hungry eYe photography. Email him for your photographic needs: marc (at) orbito.net
C & K (probably shouldn’t name them 😛 ) for being my cute models and their parents (our uncle and aunty) for being supportive of the new VH07V venture.
Todd W for letting us borrow your bench for the shave ice scene.
Wifey and bebe for hanging out and being patient during the shoot. 8)

Barring another delay, my new order of 200+ additional shirts is supposed to be pau today! Hopefully, I’ll be able to pick up what I’ve been waiting for a month for, so I can continue my grass roots efforts of sales and distribution out of the trunk of my car. 😛 In anticipation of selling from my booth at the upcoming Hawaii Ocean Expo, I’ll probably be ordering another color combination or two, in addition to keiki sizes and a possible style for da wahine out dea. Exciting!
