This year, we will have cooking demonstrations from Chef Mavro of Chef Mavro Restaurant and Grant Kawasaki of Hawaiian Grown TV & Hawaiian Grown Kitchen, Santa Miyoshi of Tokkuri Tei defending his “Riceipe” contest belt, live entertainment by Jody Kamisato & ‘Uke’s Rising Stars and taiko drumming from Ryukyukoku Matsuri Daiko Hawaii, our 3rd annual SPAM Musubi eating contest, and our 2nd successful attempt to break the Guinness World Records for the World’s Largest SPAM Musubi! Don’t forget to also bring your brown rice or monetary donations for our beneficiary Lanakila Meals on Wheels. Can’t wait! See you there…
And lastly… Jon Yamasato, a fellow Kaiser alumni reached out to me and asked if I could help support his friend Jay Veltri, who, at just 33 years old, is in the middle of his 2nd “battle for survivorship” with cancer.
This Saturday, September 8, 2012, the day before Jay’s 34th birthday, there will be a fundraiser held at a private estate at Paiko Lagoon (near Kuliouou). Suggested ticket donation is $25. I think last week’s video was a bit too difficult because, although we had a handful of Facebook shares via the blog, the comments/guesses were unusually low.
I had another food video queued up and ready to go for this week, but to avoid another slow comment week (hopefully), we’ll try something a lil’ different (yet again). If this doesn’t work, we may just have to go back to good ol’ fashioned photos again. LOL!

Once again, Marc Orbito of Hungry eYe Photo continues to impress. Following up our last VH07V photo shoot at Kaka`ako Kool, I hired Marc to help shoot our next scene at the iconic Rainbow Drive-In. With the help of fellow blogger and friend Catherine Toth, I was able to get permission from owner Jimmy Gusukuma (Toth’s friend) to shoot some scenes there for VH07V. Wow, much mahalos Cat and Mr. Gusukuma! What an honor!

This week’s “Spotted” shot for VH07V is of friend and supporter Jody Kamisato. He owns and operates the very popular ukulele school called Ukulele Hale. Jody is also a member of the Na Hoku Hanohano nominated band Heart & Soul, mentors keiki through his Ukes on the Loose program, and has a regular gig in Aulani’s Starlit Hui show every Monday and Thursday.

And finally… I’m officially a Guinness World Recordsâ„¢ Record Holder!
Well, I can’t take all the credit, but it’s pretty exciting nonetheless. 😉
We finally received notification back from the Guinness World Recordsâ„¢ folks that our record setting attempt for the “Largest SPAM Musubi” at last year’s Rice Fest was made official. Me, along with the other 20 or so volunteers/participants in the building of the musubi got our names in the record books. Cool right? 🙂

As some of you may know, my parents had just landed in Japan and were en route to their hotel when the massive earthquake occurred last month. All of my immediate family members also call Japan their home. Needless to say, any time anyone is doing anything to help those victims of the tragedy, I am all for it. Helluva Rides “Nippon O Sukuou” Kokua for Japan Charity Car Show
Some of you may know & recogmatize “bB” as a commenter on this blog. Well, on a recent trip to Maui, bruddah generously gave me a bunch of mangoes from his yard. So giving yeah!? During our brief conversation, he mentioned this event that he was helping to put together for the racing/car community to rally around and I was like “Send da info ova so I can post um up!” So here it is! His event is on Sunday, April 17th in Kapolei at Podium Raceway (91-1085 Lexington St – Bldg 1844) from 10am-3pm. With each $10 donation, you will get Nippon O Sukuou stickers, which translates to “Let’s Help Japan”. For more information, check out their Facebook events page here.
Heart & Soul Live Aloha Benefit Concert
My friend and old Kaiser High School schoolmate Jody Kamisato is part of a band named Heart & Soul who has performed numerous times in Japan. They are in the beginning stages of planning a concert to help benefit Japan. Why? In Jody’s words, “Japan has been so good to me… Need to give back & share the ALOHA!” I don’t really have a lot of info about the concert yet, but you can follow their progress for the concert on their Facebook Fan Page here.
