Fave Five Friday: Talents

May 22, 2009

(This one’s actually wifey’s suggestion. Mad props to her!)

So last week, we went to watch our friend Heejin perform a piano recital at the University of Hawaii’s Orvis Auditorium. Sistah’s got some skills lemme tell you!

After witnessing Jin’s super-talent in person, wifey suggested I put this out to all y’all to see what hidden (or not so hidden) talents we gots ourselves. Hopefully, you won’t have to reach (like me) to find your 5. 😛

  1. Friendly/People Person & Happy/Never Grouchy – for the most part, I think I’m a friendly, approachable, people person kinda guy. I hate people who are unfriendly, snobby and/or stand-off-ish, or who think they are better than you. My close friends will probably tell you I’m a little too friendly when I get all touchy feely with them! LOL!  I don’t understand people who can go through life being unhappy. You have one life, why not make the most of it right? Don’t worry, be happy!
  2. King of Nicknames – I love making up nicknames for people I know. You folks up in hurr, my co-workers, friends, etc. Loves it!
  3. Semi-athletic – I can usually pick up anything that involves, throwing, catching, running, and jumping, with a little bit of hand-eye coordination.
  4. Never Give Up Attitude – not sure if this is a blessing or a curse, but I don’t like failing at anything, so I keep at things until there’s no more keeping-at anymore. Ha!
  5. Jack of All Trades Master of None – this one’s probably due to the trait above. And maybe my short attention span as well. 😛 Whether it be coding for the web, strumming a few chords on my uke, spinning a basketball on my finger, blurting out nonsense via this blog, etc., I’d like to think that I’m pretty decent at whatever I decide to put my mind to. Don’t think I’ve ever become a “Master” at any one thing (even though I’m sometimes called a “Webmaster”! LOL!), but at least I try my best. 8)

I don’t even think any of those above are talents. I tol’ you I was reachin’! Haha! Anyway, I’m sure you guys can name some REAL talents that you possess. Share, share!

Happy VHO7V Friday y’all! Have a good weekend and I’ll see y’all on Monday! 🙂

Fave Five Friday – Karaoke Songs

May 15, 2009

Is our WWE `ohana a singin’ bunch? Let’s find out shall we!?

This week’s Fave Five topic is… yep, you guessed it… Karaoke Songs (and please don’t pronounce that “care-e-o-key” 😛 )!

These are songs that you either like to sing yourself (if you’re da mic hog of da group), or with the group. Either way, it’s fun stuffs no?

  1. Let Me Be There – (singing it like) the Ekolu version of course!
  2. More Than Words – only if someone knows how to harmonize the other part. 8)
  3. A Song For Mama – most notes be in my range (easy). 😛
  4. Nothin But A G Thang – extra fun when you’re feelin’ a little tipsy and battling someone verse to verse. LOL!
  5. Anything Rick Astley – need I say more?

How about the annoying 5? Here’s mine:

  1. Summer Nights or Bohemian Rhapsody – these are actually fun group songs, but sometimes overplayed.
  2. I Will Survive – girly song… I can’t relate. 😛
  3. Barbie Girl – see above
  4. Anything unfamiliar or “self indulgent” (as Simon would say) – nothing more boring than watching/listening to a song that puts the singer in their own little world.
  5. Anything Britney or Boy Band-ish – need I say more?

On a side note, how about dem cheesy (local) music videos dey got goin’ on with some of dem songs? Or the Korean kine that uses footage that doesn’t even relate to the song? LOL!

Happy VHO7V Friday y’all! Have a good weekend and I’ll see y’all on Monday! 🙂

Fave Five Friday – Leis/Flowers

May 1, 2009

Happy May Day y’all! I promise I won’t say it. My willpower is strong. Will… not… say… it!

May Day is Lei Day in Hawaii!

Gaaaah! Sorry, I just couldn’t hold it in! 😛

Yes, today is Lei Day (in Hawaii… STOP IT!), and, as such, we will do an apropos Fave Five list. Now I’m no lei/flower expert, so my list will be pretty standard, a.k.a boy-like. Please excuse yeah?

Hopefully, the rest of y’all can provide a better list than this. 8)

  1. Maile Lei – manly, reminds me of special occasions.
  2. Pikake Lei – da buggah smells GOOD!
  3. Kukui Nut Lei – simple, easy, doesn’t mess up your clothes, manly. Nuff Sedd.
  4. Cherry Blossoms – for the amount of times I’ve been to Japan, I’ve (believe it or not) never witnessed cherry blossom IRL. I shall one day. Until that day, though… *sigh*
  5. Sunflowers or Gerberas – there’s just something about these thangs that puts a smile on people’s faces no?

Pretty blah eh? Sorry, I tried… Edumacate me please.

P.S. Happy VHO7V Friday y’all!

Fave Five Friday – Drinks

April 24, 2009

Buy me drinky drinky?

I could’ve sworn we covered this topic already in a previous Fave Five list, but looking back at the archives, I don’t see it, so hurr we goooo!

Personally, I’m-a-gonna have to make separate lists ’cause my favorite drinks differ based on when and where I yam. OK, let’s do this!

At the crib:

  1. Water – We filter ours using one of dem Brita water pitchers from Costco. Now that’s what I call high quality H2O. 😉
  2. Apple Juice – Those 1 gallon, two-packs, again purchased from Costco. YUM!
  3. Vitamin Water – We used to tank these often, but it got expensive real quick. Speaking of which, aren’t their new commercials just hilarious! They even have a fake microsite! Classic!
  4. Calpico – Pops won a whole case in a golf tourney so wifey and I took a bunch home with us. The Aloe flavored one is not as bad as it sounds and is actually pretty good, FYI.
  5. Primo – She go with poke right after work!

In the Club:

  1. (Almost) Anything on draught – Can’t go wrong with the stuffs straight from the tap
  2. Heiney – I used to like it better when I was the only one in the club green bottling. Now, errone is doing it which kinda sucks. 😦 Gotta switch it up now. Good thing I hardly go clubbing anymore. Ha!
  3. Orange Juice – when I don’t feel like boozing it up, I go O.J. Figgah it’s cheap and somewhat healthy (good way to get my Vitamin C).
  4. Jack and Coke – anything with Coke is a go.
  5. Bud Light – tastes like water, but when there’s nothing else… Can’t forget to send a shout out to Corona for nostalgia’s sake. Makes me remember back to a time when drinking it with the lime wedge at the old Oceans on Thursday nights was cool. LOL!

Dining Out:

  1. Water (with a straw) 😛 – sometimes the taps/pitchers/cups at the joints I go to are questionable.
  2. Coke (with a straw) 8) – I usually get this when I go to the places above. Figgah, they can’t contaminate the Coke dispenser too can they? Hehe! Coke goes well with burger and fry kine places no?
  3. Asahi – any time I go to a Japanese restaurant, this is a guaranz ballbaranz! Just goes with the food. Oh, and green tea too.
  4. Authentic-tasting Nippon Green Tea – see above
  5. When in Rome… – I like to change the brand of beer I drink, depending on where I am. Tsingtao at Chinese restaurants, Corona at Mexican restaurants, Singha at Thai restaurants, Moretti at Italian restaurants, etc.

  1. Pocari Sweat – drink of choice when walking/running around the muthaland.
  2. Anything Hawaiian Sun – pretty much everything in their lineup is onos.
  3. Ito En Natural Fruit Teas – Mmmm, but kinda expensive at Stan Sheriff! 😦

So what say you? Post your list(s) below a-ight? Happy VHO7V Friday folks! Be safe and have a nice, fun weekend k? Shoots!

P.S. Any kiddies out dea reading… remember… no drink until you stay of age k? 8)
P.P.S. Any social drinkers out dea reading… remember… drink responsibly… no drink and drive k?

Prom Songs

April 10, 2009

Since I’m off being unproductive today 😛 , hurr’s a combo Fave 5 / Flashback Friday post from our beloved kuya.d. Show him some love y’all!

Chee-hoo! And aloha WWE ‘ohana! I’m not sure if Ed made a good decision, but you lucky buggahs (or poor things) have me, kuya.d, sitting in for the vacay man today. Thanks for the honor Bruddah Ed!

So let’s jump in the ole way-back machine, and give a nod to prom. Yeah, it’s prom season, so let’s do it this way: list your Fave 5 songs from your prom days (fast songs, love songs, any song that takes you back!).

And I’ll also start us off on our favorite “name that tune” sing-along. So join in!

I know today’s Good Friday so I do wish you all a nice one. Some of you don’t have work, but I’m still hoping for some responses since some folks still have to represent on the time clock.

My prom songs Fave 5:
1) “Lost in Love” – New Edition (they were my favorite group until Boyz II Men came out).
2) “About You” – C&K (even the kids now listen to this song, true island classic).
3) “The Search is Over” – Survivor (didn’t I hear this on Idol the other nite?).
4) “Supersonic” – JJ Fadd (this or rock, rock Planet Rock, or give-give-give Give it All You Got).
5) “I Would Die 4 You” – Prince (go ahead, throw in that Purple Rain DVD, I know ya wanna).

. . . I’ve been waiting for so long, now I finally found someone to stand by me . . . (continue on from here folks)!

By the way, Have a blessed Easter! And Ed will be back Monday, mucho mahalos!

Fave Five Friday – Smells

April 3, 2009

Just call me the blender, cause I mix thangs up!

Awwww yeah! We’re goin’ back to Fave Five Friday this week.

“OMG, what is he going to do next week? I’m so scared!”

Das right! You should be scurred. I be keepin’ you on your toes son!

Hehe, ok, that was the longest, most ridiculous opening ever. But you’re still reading, so we a-ight.

This week’s Fave Five list is smells. For kicks, I may have to add a non-faves list up in hurr as well. Feel free to do the same y’all!

  1. Wifey – [insert obligatory “Awwww” here]
  2. Wifey’s cooking – See, I stay learnin’!
  3. Anything New – new car smell, new shoes, new clothes, new electronics, anythang!
  4. Fresh Air – Lucky we live Hawaii!
  5. Poke or French Fries! – ’nuff sedd! 😛 Actually pretty much any food smells ono if I’m hungry…

Non-Fave Five “Smells” list:

  1. B.O. – Please use deodorant people! Da worst is when it lingers even after they’re gone!
  2. Barf – I got four words for this: Y U C K!
  3. (Someone else’s) Poop – Doesn’t your own not bother you that much? Or is that just gross to talk about? 😛
  4. Men’s Bathrooms – anywhere in the world! Always stank!
  5. Stink bombs – damn you troublemaking classmates during our assemblies!

Happy Aloha Friday (and weekend) y’all! Shoots!

Fave Five Friday – Peeps (Desert Island edition)

February 27, 2009

A-ight gang, unless you can think of anything else, I think we’ve exhausted all our options for da Desert Island. We’ve brought along enough DVDs, CDs, Books, and Valued Possessions to cover half the island. And, thankfully, we’re stranded with each other, so, in case we’re short on any one item, we’ve got each other’s back. Teamwork baby!

Next week (starting this Sunday actually), I’m thinking of starting a new “_____ Friday” game. Oh, it’s gonna be a doozy. Be sure to pick up this Sunday’s Advertiser, get scared by my picture on the left hand column, and then log into this hurr blog to find out what it is yo!

Until then, let’s get back to Desert Island for one final hurrah. “Peeps” is the topic of choice this week and the limit is 5. Peeps, meaning people… dead or alive, famous or not. Remember, these are people you’d want to spend the last 100 75 50 years of your life (some of us are old) on a desolate island in the middle of nowhere. OKGO!

  1. Wifey – [insert obligatory “awwwwww” here] Honestly, if I nevah put this, you guys (and she) would’ve scolded me! But seriously, the island won’t be the same without her. Awwwww. 🙂
  2. MacGyver – Oh yeah! I’m a genius (again!)! We’d be off the island in like half an hour after he fashions a boat for us from leaves and rubble.
  3. BJ Penn – bruddah can teach me all of his sick moves every day, all day. Plus, he would kick anybody’s gluteus maximus who tries to step to us… unless he/she/it was covered in Vaseline! 8)
  4. All you WWE readers – [insert another awwwwww here]. 😛
  5. That genie from last week – If any of the above fail me, I’ll have three more wishes to choose from, though I’d only need one: get off the !$%^ island! 🙂

Talk to me!
* Who you goin’ bring?
* If you have any suggestions for future Desert Island items/topics, post um below!
* Got a guess to what the new “_____ Friday” is gonna be? Holla!
* You goin’ support the papah and pick up this Sunday’s edition? Bonus: get me! 😛

Have a happy Aloha Friday (and weekend) y’all! Shoots!

Fave Five Friday – Must Have Possessions (Desert Island edition)

February 20, 2009

Y’all already shared your list of DVDs, CDs and Books. But let’s just say that that there are no TVs, DVD players, CD players and books allowed on this island. You know, hypothetically. 😉 Having said that, what prized possessions would you want with you in this time of need? Remember, these are your top 5 must-haves!

Here’s mine… No bite k?

  1. Cell phone (with unlimited battery power) – Awwww yeah! I’m a genius! My stay on desert island won’t even be that long with 911 at my disposal from my trusty cell. And, if my stay does last a bit, at least I’ll have access to my email, the web, and some games l’dat.
  2. Unlimited supply of water – if Man vs. Wild has taught me anything, it’s that I need water. Forget that drinking your own pee “bidness”… yuck! It’s high quality H20 for me!
  3. ATV/Dune buggy (with unlimited gas) – can be both practical (traveling around the island, fetching food, etc.) and used for fun (jumping off hills, etc.).
  4. Gun (with unlimited ammo) – I’ll be the head cheese with this puppy. Go ahead, make my day.
  5. Genie bottle – In case any of the above fail me, I’ll have three more wishes to choose from. *grin*

Have a happy Aloha Friday (and weekend) y’all! Shoots!

Fave Five Friday – Scary Movies

February 13, 2009

Since today is Friday the 13th, *insert scary music here* we’re gonna switch gears and take a slight break from our Desert Island FFFridays. This week’s Five? Scariest Movies. How apropos, eh? 🙂

As made obvious by my list, I don’t really get out much when it comes to watching scary movies. Haha! Help a brutha out by sending yours won’tcha?

  1. The Exorcist – the site of little Linda Blair’s spinning head is forever stuck in my memory. What makes it even more scary is the supposed “Exorcist curse” that hovers over everything related to the movie. *shudder*
  2. Jaws – there’s nothing scarier than touching on human emotions that people can relate to. I can’t relate too much to a spinning head, but living on an island surrounded by water, I can definitely relate to sharks. Yikes!
  3. The Silence of the Lambs – holy cr@p! Anthony Hopkins was scarrrry!
  4. Children of the Corn – I don’t really remember much about this movie. I do remember being scared watching it when a friend’s parent’s rented it. Thanks a lot bad babysitters! 😛
  5. Se7en – wasn’t quite sure what to put here, but it was either Seven or Beetle Juice. 😛 The head in the box was an interesting twist though.

Edumacate me by sending yours over mmmkay? Shooooots!

Happy Aloha Friday (and weekend) y’all!

Fave Five Friday – Must Have Books (Desert Island edition)

February 6, 2009

Well… We’ve already shared our lists for must have DVDs and CDs on the Desert Island. Logic tells us that the next list should be books right? Well my little Einsteins, you are absolutely correct-a-mundo!

This may catch you as a shocker, but I’m not much of a book worm. I think I have the attention span of a 4 year old. LOL! So my list will consist of magazines. The benefit with this (no bite! 😛 ) is that the subscriptions for them will include delivery; so errry month, a new magazine will magically show up on my porch on Desert Island. Lord knows how they know my address or why they can’t rescue us if they know where we are, but don’t ruin the moment for us a-ight? 8)

  1. Slam Magazine subscription – haven’t read it in a while, but back in the day, it was one of those must-reads for me as I could totally relate (culture, language, etc.).
  2. Sports Illustrated Magazine subscription – this is an ingenious pick (if I do say so myself) as it comes weekly instead of monthly, so I’ll always have something fresh and new to read. Plus, I can sell off the annual swimsuit edition (for shells *grin*) to the most desperate guy.
  3. Maxim Magazine subscription – for um… the articles. 😉 Also sellable for valuable shells. I’ll be rich!
  4. Men’s Health Magazine subscription – they’ve got it all in here. Health, diet, style, gadgets, etc.
  5. Honolulu Advertiser subscription – Awwww yeah! Gotsta represent the HonAdv yo! Plus, I gotta keep up with what’s going on on the “other” islands.

Honorable mentions go to People/Us/Entertainment Weekly (any of those that will keep me up to speed with pop culture), Time (ditto for world news/culture), MMA/Jiu Jitsu related magazines/articles (we gots lots of time on the island… might as well earn my black belt while we’re there 😛 ).

Post your must-have books (or magazines) below yo!

Have a happy Aloha Friday (and weekend) y’all! Shoots!

P.S. Oh yeah, no forget fo read my “UFC 94 Weekend In Vegas” article! 🙂
