Christmas Lights in Kapolei

December 20, 2010

So da oddah week, wifey and I went to a first birthday party at the Kapolei Rec Center (Happy Birthday Tori!)… On the way home, we noticed some bright lights shining up a storm across the street. Curious, we went to go check um out, and…

HOOOOOOOOOO! (HO HO!)

Good thing we did! Buggah was NUTS!

Apparently this (normally) unassuming cul-de-sac on Hanapaa Street gets into the holiday spirit like no other, every single year. And it’s not just one house… several of the houses go all out to provide some nice “Honolulu City Lights” action, only, it’s in Kapolei. Below are some shots from that night to help get you in the mood for Christmas this week…

They even have the Heineken tree lighting up in tune with the Christmas music playing in the background. Check out the short video below.

I spoke with the owner of one of the houses and she said that they’ve been doing it for many years… Since their kids were small kid time, and they are all young adults now. With no tip jar in sight, they leave benches and hot chocolate out for anyone and everyone to enjoy… for free! When I asked how much their electric bill was for the month, she said, “About $1,100, but it’s ok, we prepare for this all year…”

Wow, talk about sharing the Aloha. Mahaloz Hanapaa Street residents… Mahalo!

Go check them out, go check um, go! Fun stuffs!

With the holiday season quickly approaching, this will probably be my last blog until the new year. If I don’t see or talk to you guys until then, have a safe and happy holiday season k? See you next year! 😉

Special Announcement!
Tokkuri-Tei, my favorite restaurant in all the land, is moving this week! They are going from their existing 611 Kapahulu location, right down the road to the old Sam Choy’s and Ranch House location (above Hee Hing): 449 Kapahulu. They are planning to re-open on Sunday the 26th Monday the 27th! Please go and support them k? 🙂

Where In Hawaii is Edward Sugimoto? – December 23, 2009

December 23, 2009

OK, OK… as we approach Christmas (just two days away!), the holiday spirit is finally hitting me. So even though I was supposed to join the rest of y’all on holiday hiatus, I thought I’d entertain the few of you who are still checking in with this Christmasy-themed Where In Hawaii. Enjoy! 🙂

Last week, bruddah kuya.d crept up to 3rd place on da leadahboard by correctly guessing Toshi’s Delicatessen. That gives him back to back wins and puts him in position to be the first for the turkey. Congrats dewz!

This week, we got some animation ack-shon goin’ on again. It’s a festive Christmas tree from bottom to top. Too bad for you, I cropped out most of the background. Muhahahaha! 8)

Attempting another multi-point photo might be hard with less people reading, but let’s give it a go shall we? Here’s how we’ll divvy up the points this week:

* General Location: 1 point
* Name of closest business: 1 point
* Name of closest cross streets: 1 point each (3 points possible)

Flashback Friday: Holiday Memories

December 18, 2009

A-ight peeps, as the end of December quickly approaches, I, like the rest of y’all, will be taking a little break for the holidays. Let’s face it… many of you are probably not reading during this time anyway. 😛

But before that, I wanted to take the time to thank all of you wonderful readers for supporting WWE these last few years (can you believe April 28, 2010 makes 2 years!?). It’s been fun and it seems like we’ve been through a lot together, even though many of us have never met IRL. Gotta love the power of the Internet eh?

I’ve had the pleasure of playing fantasy football with some of you, and have even met a few others in person. Speaking of which, much love to bruddahs hemajang and MakiSushi for their gifts of T-shirts, and bruddah bB for his furikake and stone cookie omiyage (brok’ da mout’ literally!) from the B.I.! Hopefully, I was able to repay the favor to some of you with my movie pass and UH basketball ticket giveaways, local reviews/articles/interviews, and overall silliness of this blog. Hope it helped to play at least a small role in your otherwise busy lives.

Your Fave Holiday Memories?

K, let’s do a quick Flashback Friday kine moment hurr:

* Since the holidays are a special time we share with our loved ones, let’s use this moment to share with each other, our favorite holiday memory/mammaries. 8). Use the comment box below to share with da WWE `ohana. Yes, sorry, that was a lot of “share”s. 😛

For me, I think the most recent memory was making mochi at grandma’s house last year. As Japanee as I am, that was the first time I ever did that. Fun fun!

P.S. I won’t completely disappear from your life though! Shucks huh? 😛  I’ve been getting a few Christmas/holiday related forwards lately, so I may be posting those from time to time, to pass your time (to time). 😉 Don’t want ya to forget about WWE after all! 😛

Have a safe and happy holiday season gang! See y’all next year! *wave* 🙂
