As some of you may know, my parents had just landed in Japan and were en route to their hotel when the massive earthquake occurred last month. All of my immediate family members also call Japan their home. Needless to say, any time anyone is doing anything to help those victims of the tragedy, I am all for it. Below are a few upcoming events happening locally that are doing their part to help. Please support if/where you can. Much love!

Helluva Rides “Nippon O Sukuou” Kokua for Japan Charity Car Show
Some of you may know & recogmatize “bB” as a commenter on this blog. Well, on a recent trip to Maui, bruddah generously gave me a bunch of mangoes from his yard. So giving yeah!? During our brief conversation, he mentioned this event that he was helping to put together for the racing/car community to rally around and I was like “Send da info ova so I can post um up!” So here it is! His event is on Sunday, April 17th in Kapolei at Podium Raceway (91-1085 Lexington St – Bldg 1844) from 10am-3pm. With each $10 donation, you will get Nippon O Sukuou stickers, which translates to “Let’s Help Japan”. For more information, check out their Facebook events page here.
Heart & Soul Live Aloha Benefit Concert
My friend and old Kaiser High School schoolmate Jody Kamisato is part of a band named Heart & Soul who has performed numerous times in Japan. They are in the beginning stages of planning a concert to help benefit Japan. Why? In Jody’s words, “Japan has been so good to me… Need to give back & share the ALOHA!” I don’t really have a lot of info about the concert yet, but you can follow their progress for the concert on their Facebook Fan Page here.
So the other week, my beloved blunt friend Todd tells me that my blog is boring these days and that I needed to spice things up. He misses how I used to post every day.
Granted posting Where In Hawaii every Wednesday has become somewhat repetitious, I had to remind him that to post that one blog a week, I still had to:
1) take the photo
2) edit the photo
3) collect and calculate the stats from the week before
4) write the blog
5) read each and every comment
6) reply to each and every comment
7) rinse and repeat
Oh, and did I mention that I wasn’t getting paid a penny for this, and that my new position at work (my real job) is owning me?
I wasn’t complaining really. I actually agreed that I should be blogging more, but I just had to let my friend know the dealio, real quick-like.
So here I be. Attempting to keep y’all troops entertained. 😉 With Cat’s shocking announcement last week, it looks like there are less and less of us bloggers doing so dese days das why! :

What Ever Happened To…?
So in honor of Todd, who is single btw (*grin*), let’s do a “What Ever Happened To…” blog today about meeting people/places. The idea behind “What Ever Happened To…” is to let us take a trip down memory lane and take a look back at how things were back in the day. If this goes well, we can continue it with different topics. Today’s topic: Meeting People/Meeting Places.
When I was growing up, cruising Waiks was where it was at. We would go round and round and round on Kuhio Ave – for hours on end – in the hopes of talking to those hotties in da Honda. Some of my old older co-workers used to talk about this thing called socials where clubs/groups from one high school would go out with clubs/groups from another high school. I have no idea what that is, but the concept sounds ingenious! LOL! Anyway, in the comment area below, feel free to post your favorite place to meet people. Maybe even share the story of how/where you met your wife/husband/bf/gf? Lord knows, Todd needs the help. Ahahaha!

Are You Ready for Some (Fantasy) Football!?
On a side note, we’re starting up the WWE Fantasy Football League again. If you’re interested in playing with us, post your interest in the comment area below and I’ll send you the invite. Last year’s rankings:
Gooooooood morning yo! Yep, it’s Fun Day Monday and your boy is here to post once again. Two Mondays in a row now? Miracle ain’t it?
Well, there’s actually a good reason…
Aside from missing y’all very dearly this weekend (as, I’m sure you did me 😛 ), my ugly mug is supposed to be donning the cover of today’s print edition of our wonderful Star Advertiser, bringing a whole new set of readers (well, hopefully) to WWE.
AURIIITE!
So here we be, with an oldie but goodie, Fun Day Monday blog. Dust off your keyboards and comment awayyyy kay!?

A while ago, our friend Rox shared her method of how she remembers her friends’ license plates… She takes the first three letters of the plate and makes a catchy phrase out of it. For example: RBP would be Ronie Brings Peanuts, GVT would be Good Virgin Teacher, and PJN would be PaJama Nighty. Ahahaha! Eh, no ack! I know you do the same! LOL!
And speaking of license plates, let’s not forget about kuya.d‘s now legendary suggestion of VH07V on a previous “Custom Plates” blog (see comment #12)! Huuuu, dat be some history right dea!
VH07V Vanity License Plate
Anywho, let’s hear some of your memorization tactics. Can be with license plates or anything else. Maybe you can use Michael Scott’s tactics?
On a side note, here’s a feel good mini-story: This past weekend, I flew over to Maui to help out at our Road Runner Mobile booth at the Maui Spam Jam. Amongst other things, we were giving away one brand new SpongeBob SquarePants skateboard every hour. There was a cute kid named Jarrett there who signed up early on to try and win one of the skateboards. Hour after hour, he would come back to our booth to see if we had drawn names yet and if the name we had drawn was his. He just would not give up.
As the show started to come to a close, we had one more name left to draw. Jarrett was nowhere to be found. We figured he had either given up or left. Either way, the show had to continue. Bruddah Joel (da man from the Maui’s division) was about to pull the last name, but instead of pulling it himself, he decided to let one of two young girls pull the name. They too had been hanging around the booth for most of the day hoping to win the skateboard.
In an unbelievable twist of fate, the girl pulled Jarrett’s entry!!! Joel and I were floored! Something was in the air… It had to be divine intervention!
Making things more fairytale-like, we found out from Jarrett’s mom that little Jarrett was actually recently hit by a car and has been going through months and months of rehab to get his walking back to form. On top of that he is also an avid collector of skateboards.
WOAH! Talk about chicken skin!
Here’s a shot of Jarrett with his new skateboard (along with Joel).
Jarrett and Joel
Congrats Jarrett! All the best to you!

A-ight peeps. Have a great last week of July!
P.S. Was good to see bB (again) and meet his wife, and also meet NeedaHobby for the first time IRL! Thanks for coming out to the show! 🙂
A-ight peeps, as the end of December quickly approaches, I, like the rest of y’all, will be taking a little break for the holidays. Let’s face it… many of you are probably not reading during this time anyway. 😛
But before that, I wanted to take the time to thank all of you wonderful readers for supporting WWE these last few years (can you believe April 28, 2010 makes 2 years!?). It’s been fun and it seems like we’ve been through a lot together, even though many of us have never met IRL. Gotta love the power of the Internet eh?
I’ve had the pleasure of playing fantasy football with some of you, and have even met a few others in person. Speaking of which, much love to bruddahs hemajang and MakiSushi for their gifts of T-shirts, and bruddah bB for his furikake and stone cookie omiyage (brok’ da mout’ literally!) from the B.I.! Hopefully, I was able to repay the favor to some of you with my movie pass and UH basketball ticket giveaways, local reviews/articles/interviews, and overall silliness of this blog. Hope it helped to play at least a small role in your otherwise busy lives.
Your Fave Holiday Memories?
K, let’s do a quick Flashback Friday kine moment hurr:
* Since the holidays are a special time we share with our loved ones, let’s use this moment to share with each other, our favorite holiday memory/mammaries. 8). Use the comment box below to share with da WWE `ohana. Yes, sorry, that was a lot of “share”s. 😛
For me, I think the most recent memory was making mochi at grandma’s house last year. As Japanee as I am, that was the first time I ever did that. Fun fun!
P.S. I won’t completely disappear from your life though! Shucks huh? 😛 I’ve been getting a few Christmas/holiday related forwards lately, so I may be posting those from time to time, to pass your time (to time). 😉 Don’t want ya to forget about WWE after all! 😛
Have a safe and happy holiday season gang! See y’all next year! *wave* 🙂
Another quality post that I’m sure will get 1000s100s10smaybe 1? comment below… Riiiight? 😛 But seriously, it’s Friday, so I thought I’d give y’all a break from thinking and send those of you – who are remotely interested in Fantasy Football – into the weekend with some mindless giggles. As you may or may not have known, we’ve started our inaugural WWE Fantasy Football League draft with 10 brave participants…
1 – che
2 – bB
3 – Coconut Willy
4 – S Ticket
5 – kuya.d
6 – World Wide Ed
7 – NeedaHobby
8 – BananaFysh
9 – soogs
10 – mypassionbucketisfull
and in that order, we’ve been drafting aimlessly (or at least I have). You can click on the link below to watch the results in real time, or as often as we can get to it.
Check out how the teams are starting to stack up below. In the comment area below that, feel free to laugh, cry, yell in anger or otherwise harass us with your tips, advice, words of wisdom, or silence. Hopefully, not the silence part though. 😛 And WWE playaz, feel free to trash talk up in hurr as well.

Don’t you want that 10 minutes of your life I wasted back? Sorry! 😛 Shoots! Have a good weekend y’all! 🙂
Alright alright! It’s another exciting day up in hurr. Can you feel it? 🙂
I’d like to first start off by welcoming you new readers who found your way here via my floating head on the cover of today’s paper. Hope you like what you see and decide to check back often! 8) I would also like to send mad love to all y’all regular (dare I say daily?) readers! Majahloz for being a loyal member of our little WWE `ohana we got goin’ on ova hea!
Earlier this month, I asked you to post your questions for Mr. Shane Victorino to my blog. You see, your boy had the unique opportunity to meet and interview our beloved All Star and I wanted to take some of your questions with me, as we did with Bruddah BJ Penn. Well, I finally had the chance to edit, transcribe, and Youtube the puppy, and, below, is the fruit of our loins, er labor. 😛 Enjoy!
[bB ]: Did you have any baseball heroes and did you collect baseball cards of them?
I collected baseball cards, but I didn’t have really no baseball heroes growing up. I was very big into every sport I think. I never really focused on baseball, but I watched it definitely as a kid, but you know I never really was like “baseball’s gonna be my passion,” you know growing up as a kid. And of course now it is my passion, it is my job, it is my career, yeah I never really had any baseball heroes.
(Ed’s notes: Sorry beeBz, I got rayboyjr‘s question mixed up with yours! *blush*)
[hemajang]: Does Shane have any thoughts about life after baseball.
Life after baseball. Right now, you know what, I’m trying to line myself up with some things. You know things that you brainstorm. Hopefully I’ll have a long enough career, and hopefully I’ll save enough money that I make during my career and hopefully get to retire and sit back on the beach, but no, I definitely want to uh, you know anytime in this business I think you meet so many people you know, you just, you try to keep getting better and you try to keep learning and you always listen to people’s advice and try to get the best advice you can.
[Matt ]: what’s it like when he runs into other Hawaii boys in the league?
What’s it like? I mean it’s just like you know it’s one of those things where it happens everywhere. You know how Hawaii is. We’re very family oriented, we always stick together. Like last night for instance, going over to support BJ (at UFC 101), going around the league and facing guys like Tyler Yates, and Brandon League, and playing against Kurt Suzuki. You feel good because you see a fellow “Hawaiian,” a guy that you know, hey, there’s not many of us out there that get the opportunity to do what we’re doing. You know you feel good for the guys that get the opportunity to go out there and do that.
[kuya.d ]: What do his teammates ask him to bring back for them from Hawaii?
Um, you know what, a lot of them always ask about the pineapples. Hawaii’s got great pineapples. We got a lot of guys on our team that love pineapples. You know I brought President Obama… I gave him macadamia nuts and chocolates during the All Star game, so, you know stuff like that, little things like that that you bring home from Hawaii.
[NeedaHobby ]: did he know Kurt Suzuki growing up and does he keep in contact with him?
Yeah, no yeah. In fact we just spoke last night during the fights. He text messaged me over the phone and we definitely, I did play against him growing up. He was a couple years behind me. I think he was a sophomore when I was a senior. But I definitely played against Kurt. It’s definitely exciting to see another guy, another fellow Maui boy in fact, do well and with guys like Tyler, with Brandon, you know just seeing the state of Hawaii do well in baseball.
[rayboyjr]: Which current Major League player(s) are you a big fan of? Have you asked for autographs or game-used stuff from them after a game?
Yeah, no I get autographs from as many guys as I can. I never know how long I’m going to be playing in this game. I think when you go out there every day, playing with guys like Albert (Pujols), playing with guys like Jimmy (Rollins), Chase (Utley), and being friends with guys like (Ryan) Howard, you know being friends with the guys on my team, especially, you know, we got so many guys that are good on our team. I’m definitely a guy that likes to talk to people, and say hi and get to know people, so…
[zzzzzz]: Has he got any of his teammates hooked on Spam Musubi? Is PETA still giving him grief about Spam Musubi being his favorite food?
No PETA’s not giving me a hard time yet this year, but Scott Eyre, one of our relievers, he’s big into SPAM. He bought me some SPAM last week and we actually fried it up and ate it. Yeah we have some fun around here.
[skycastles]: Boxers or briefs?
Boxers or briefs? No answer on that one (*laughs*). No answer to that one. A little too much for me. (*laughs*)
(Ed’s notes: Never again sky! Nevahhhhhhh agaaaaain! 😛 )
[Dave Oi]: What do you miss most about Maui in particular (not necessarily Hawaii)…besides family & friends.
What do I miss most about Maui in particular? I think uh, the beautiful weather, the beautiful beaches. Just paradise. I definitely miss that. The Jersey shore is about an hour from here, and it’s definitely not walking out to the white sandy beaches of Hawaii and uh, you know, it’s definitely different living on the east coast. But like I always said, if everybody’s healthy and my family’s doing well, home will always be home. But when I retire, that’s where I plan to be, I plan to be back home in Hawaii. I make my house right now what we consider the 9th island, and that’s in Las Vegas in the off season. When all is said and done, I definitely want to move home to Hawaii again.
[snow]: Does he feel that, coming out of a small state like Hawaii, he was at a disadvantage trying to break into the major leagues? Or might that have somehow worked in his favor?
Um, I say yes and no. It might’ve worked in my favor, but yet it might not have. I think once you get to where I’m at, when you get drafted, I think that everybody’s on uh, you know there’s guys that are, you know a different level, 1st rounder 2nd rounder, but you know what, to me, when you get drafted, everybody has a shot. If you work hard, you play the game the right way, you try to go out there with the right approach. You know I’ve seen a lot of guys get drafted after me, a lot of guys get drafted before me that didn’t get to the big leagues, so I think it depends on the individual, the character of the individual. Everybody has a chance. It might’ve helped me in a way being from Hawaii, but I think everybody gets a fair shot.Â
[YN]: what’s the weirdest request he has ever gotten from a female fan?
Weirdest request. Boy, you get some weird ones. Some I can’t talk about on camera, but some of the things you get asked to do, especially by female fans, it’s like, I can’t do it. It’s just not realistic. You know being around and having a passion for the game and fans loving you I think is such a nice thing. The most I do is sign balls you know and do little things like that.
[uncle jimmy]: Shane’s arrival and rise to a starting spot pretty much coincided with the re-emergence of the Philly Phranchise. try ask him if Pilly peopo consider him a good luck charm.
*modest laugh* I guess yes and no. I think this team’s a good team, but I think we all work together, we work hard. You know it might’ve been just a coincidence, but you know what, I appreciate the opportunity that I get to play here in this lovely city. And it’s one of those things where you never take it for granted.
…
If it sounded like I was kinda rushing, I really was. I had taken up a good part of his warmup time with my previous two sections and could tell he was getting a bit antsy. As you can hear towards the ending, some peeps started to trickle into the dugout as well! Apologies if I skipped your question but I think I got most of the non-duplicated ones in dea.
Look for the complete video interview and article at AroundHawaii.com on September 1st!
Hope you enjoyed it yo! Lemme know what you thank!
For those who get one holiday tomorrow (Statehood/Admission Day), enjoy! See y’all on Monday k? Shooots! 🙂
By popular demand (from about 3 of you), we’ve started up a WWE Fantasy Football League and are calling all interested playaz. If you’re interested, please email me at world.wide.ed@gmail.com and I’ll send you all the league info.
The good news is that I really suck, so you’re at least guaranteed a 2nd to the last place finish. 😛
In the meantime, can you help a brutha out and post your suggested top 5-10 draft choices in the comment area below? From what I’m hearing Adrian Peterson is the consensus #1. I have the 3rd pick in my work league (there’s a trophy anderrything!) and am wondering what kinda gems I could get there.
Other possible things to post below could be your fantasy sports victory or defeat stories, your draft strategies, making a party out of your draft day, your favorite fantasy player, your favorite NFL team, etc.
Yeah, I realize this is a pretty narrow topic and probably won’t get much action below, but it’s a good excuse to further our WWE bonding outside of this blog no? 🙂
The Playaz (so far) * bB * kuya.d * NeedaHobby
* S-Ticket
* Me
As promised, I took the questions you posted on my “Ask a BJ (Penn)” blog with me to Hilo and had BJ answer them for y’all. I’ve finally had the chance to encode it, uploaded it (to YouTube), annotate it, and publish the puppy for you folks so hurr it is. Enjoy!
BJ Penn answers questions from the World Wide Ed Community
[kuya.d]: Try asking BJ how helpful Gary Ohashi has been in his training and recovery?
[B.J. Penn] Ohhh, Gary Ohashi. Gary Ohashi has been very good for me. I see him once or twice a week. Just adjusts me, put everything in the right areas, so my body’s not aching and everything. Thank you Gary. Thanks for helping me out.
[Coconut Willy]: Originally being from Hilo, the feeling is super laid back. I know when I go to visit, I get really lazy. Ask BJ how he keeps up his intensity and motivation.
[B.J. Penn] I get really lazy too actually Coconut Willy. (*laughs*) And it’s pretty tough. Nah, you know, when you got something on your head, or you’re focused or you wanna do something, you going get out there. Plus too, you don’t want to let down all the fans, so that’s motivation. Cause you want the fans to say, you know you want the fans to go out there and after you win, you want them to tell their friends, “You see! I told you so! When I talk you listen! You listen to me when I speak to you!” (*laughs*)
[skycastles]: Boxers or briefs?
[B.J. Penn] Boxers, boxers. Boxers or nothing under surf shorts. Surf shorts: nothing. Everything else, boxers.
[skycastles]: What advice would he give to kids coming up who want to get into MMA?
[B.J. Penn] To the kids, I would just say, you know, just go and have fun. If you like to box, go box. If you like wrestling, go wrestle in school. If you like jiu jitsu, go do it and then just keep just doing the one that you think is fun and get as far as that one first. Whether it’s wrestling, boxing or kickboxing or jiu jitsu or judo or whatever it is, and then after you’re kinda done competing in that, maybe start adding all the other ones in.
[bB]: does he have any aspirations of being a promoter after he retires? maybe something on the lines of a oscar de la hoya.
[B.J. Penn] Maybe I’d want to get involved with the promoter business. But we’ll see how things unfold, and, you know, if the UFC is the only company in the future or… We’ll see, but for sure I could see myself putting on little fights around Hawaii, around the islands, the different islands, just for the locals.
[frankie]: I’d like to know if he’d like to face GSP again (sans the greasing).
[B.J. Penn] Yup, yup. For sure we want to fight GSP again and we want our opportunity for a rematch.
[uncle jimmy]: since his grandma was the original “little lei lady of waikiki” and wound up owning some chunks of waikiki in the process, and his Mom is a serious entrepreneurial player of note on her own.. does he have a similar entrepreneurial gene and how does it reveal itself?
[B.J. Penn] I don’t think my grandma ended up owning any chunks of Waikiki. In fact, I don’t think there’s many Hawaiians who own a bunch of hotels down (in) Waikiki. (*laughs*)
I would love to keep pushing BJPenn.com and training people and I guess, yeah, just push the web site, push the shop on the web site, and see where we can take it and maybe even get into the promoting stuff.
[Center Of Thought]: What does his diet consist of? What does he eat when training?
[B.J. Penn] OK, my diet, if I’m not training, I’ll eat anything, and then if I’m training, I pretty much cut out like breads and pastas. I just eat like the most natural carbohydrates like rice, potatoes, like brown rice, sweet potatoes, oats, you know, poi, like just kinda more natural stuff. And then if I want a cheat meal, then maybe I’ll eat a sandwich or something you know, but I try to just cut all that stuff out. And then lean meat and lots of fruits and vegetables.
[Center Of Thought]: What kine music does tha champ listen to?
[B.J. Penn] Listen to… Growing up I listen to everything, but nowadays I listen to more just local music, Hawaiian music, kinda keeps me relaxed. Not gonna go burn rubber down the road and get in trouble. (*laughs*)
[miLL-viLLe]: I want to know how many more fights BJ has left in him.
[B.J. Penn] Every time somebody asks me how many more fights I have left in me, I can’t really answer that question cause we always just gotta see how my next fight goes. I’m sure after I beat Kenny Florian, I’ll be happy and I’ll say we got 50 fights left, you know what I mean, so we just gotta take it fight by fight.
[mcat]: i’m curious what he does when he’s not training… any other hobbies?
[B.J. Penn] I’m just hanging out. Maybe go surfing a little bit, maybe, you know, just go swimming, have fun, watch TV, work on BJPenn.com, that’s all I do. (*laughs*)
Thank you!
There ya have it! Hope you enjoyed it! Don’t forget to read my full interview with BJ below!
A year ago to the day, the world was fortunately unfortunately exposed to the mind of me, and I hereby apologize.
You see, the peeps at the ’tiser opened thangs up for me in the backend *snicker* and shortly thereafter, the first ever World Wide Ed blog (to the Advertiser community) – simply entitled “Aloooooha!” – was born (in the USA)!
Things were slow at first, as I tried to find my place amongst the big dogs *woof WOOF* like Stephen Tsai’s “The Warrior Beat,” and Catherine Toth’s “The Daily Dish,” but eventually, I found my virtual footing and carved a cozy little niche out for myself and you fun, faithful readers.
Hoooo! I can’t believe it’s already been a year! *wipes away Visine induced tears* As some of you mentioned in yesterday’s blog, time really does fly when you’re having fun eh? It still amazes me that there were THAT many topics to write about on the daily. Sure, I did miss a few days here and thurr due to travel, holidays, and a little thing called a wedding, but for the most part, I was pretty on top of it wouldn’t ya say?
In fact, if my math is correct (and don’t truss’ me ’cause I suck at math), I probably wrote about 261 posts, give or take a few.
365 (days in the year)
– 104 (weekend days)
—————————————–
= 261 actual week days of possible WWE blogs
OK, I checked out our backend *snicker* and saw that I actually posted 200 fitty blogs! (I tol’ you my math sucks!) Either way, I think that’s quite a feat if I do say so myself. *bends over and waits for a pat on the back* (*snicker*)Â In theory, if I continue this blog on that torrid pace for the next 30 years of my life, I would’ve bored you to tears with 7,500 posts! Seventy five HUNNY!
Scurred?
Don’t be.
It’ll be all good in the ‘hood going forward. Trust.

That’s really what keeps me going. I love reading and interacting with the `ohana we got goin’ on here. You guys are the ones who make this blog fun for me! Keep it up yo!
