This week’s “Spotted” shot for VH07V features a group shot taken at this past weekend’s Food & New Products Show. VH07V had an amazing weekend and did better here than any other show previously. I’m sure it had something to do with the large attendance that came through there, but I’d also like to think/wish that perhaps it is partially due to the amount of people starting to recognize the VH07V brand more and more. 🙂 Click here to see all photos from the 48th Annual Food & New Products Show.
* On Sunday, my friend Shari Lau Yoshinaga and her “Team VH07V” team participated in the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure at Kapiolani Park. Along with VH07V’s humble donation, she was able to raise $1,353.10 for the foundation, placing #14 out of 299 teams! Amazing job Shari! What a hero! Below are a few pics from that day. * Pretty much set for the mini craft fair this Sunday at Koko Head Elementary School’s Cafeteria. My friends Kari and Julie are setting it up so we’ll have an area there for a few hours if you want to stop by and pick up some VH07V merch.
* A bunch of people were asking if I’ll be participating in the Islandwide Crafts & Food Expo taking place on the Black Friday weekend from Nov 23-25. Part of me wants to, but part of me is pretty burnt out from this past expo. Out of curiosity, I inquired with event producer Caroline Infante so she will be sending me pricing and info for the show. Depending on the cost and how much I have forgotten about how much work it takes for one of these shows (LOL!), I may or may not do it.

On Monday morning, Rice Fest received huge, national coverage from the Today Show when they covered both our Guinness World Record breaking attempt for the world’s Largest SPAM Musubi and our SPAM Musubi eating contest. In the piece, our back-to-back defending champion “Uncle Rodney” wore his Red/Gold VH07V tee and got SPOTTED! in the national story. Kinda cool yeah?
Speaking of Rice Fest, I just gotsta take the time to briefly send a big shoutout to my friends who supported me and not only performed at Rice Fest, but also, to my surprise, wore their VH07V shirts. It really warms the heart of a brutha to get such support.

For the last three years, I have participated in a program called “The Good Table”, an island-wide dining event in which tables are purchased at various restaurants across Oahu by groups or individuals who are then treated to a unique and custom dining experience. Proceeds from the sales of these tables go to Lanakila Meals on Wheels, Hawaii’s largest and only island-wide meal service for seniors.
Although it is too late to purchase tables for this year, here’s a little video that I encourage you to watch to perhaps inspire you to consider purchasing a table for next year.

* Last week’s tailgating kine action prior to the Hawaii Warriors vs. Lamar Cardinals game was a great success. Did you guys go? Got to hang out with some friends I haven’t seen in a long time and have a few before the game. Even got a good seat to catch a glimpse of the first ever Warrior Walk, a tradition that coach Norm Chow instituted this year where the players and coaches walk through the crowd before heading towards the stadium. And lastly… Jon Yamasato, a fellow Kaiser alumni reached out to me and asked if I could help support his friend Jay Veltri, who, at just 33 years old, is in the middle of his 2nd “battle for survivorship” with cancer.
This Saturday, September 8, 2012, the day before Jay’s 34th birthday, there will be a fundraiser held at a private estate at Paiko Lagoon (near Kuliouou). Suggested ticket donation is $25. Here’s a neat find. For those Auction Hunters/Storage Wars/Storage Hunters-type reality show fans out there, there will be a real life version of that happening right here in Hawaii. Locally-owned and operated Hawaii Self Storage will be holding a Storage Auction at their Salt Lake location (808 Ahua Street), with bids starting as low as $10! Here’s a neat find. For those Auction Hunters/Storage Wars/Storage Hunters-type reality show fans out there, there will be a real life version of that happening right here in Hawaii. Locally-owned and operated Hawaii Self Storage will be holding a Storage Auction at their Salt Lake location (808 Ahua Street), with bids starting as low as $10! Check out the fun on Thursday, August 30th at 10am (with registration by 9am)!
It’s that time of year again! As one of the Rice Fest co-founders, I feel that it is my duty to pester da heck outta you guys until you show up at the event. 8) This year, we’re excited to be having it at Ward Centers (in the parking lot area near Menchies off Auahi). More on the details of the day’s activities, but you can be sure that we’ll have the best rice-oriented food booths, cooking demonstrations, the SPAM musubi eating contest, and the breaking of the Guinness World Record for Largest SPAM musubi… Again!
