Survey Thursday: Banks?

June 18, 2009

In speaking with many peeps, I notice that we all tend to bank at varying locations. With interest rates at an all-time low, I’m curious to know where erryone banks and why (e.g. rates, loyalty, convenience, etc.). So… without further ado…

Where do you bank and why?

Over the years, I’ve somehow accumulated accounts at most local banks in one form or another (checking, savings, credit card, etc.). Now that I’m hitched, it’s probably a good idea to try and consolidate it to those I really need.

BOH is probably one of the most convenient banks. Their ATM locations are in the most usable places: Costco, Longs, Safeway, and their brick and mortar locations are pretty accessible as well. ASB is the other one: Foodland, Sack N Save, etc. Anyone go strictly online like ING Direct, Emigrant Direct, eTrade, etc.? Those buggahs used to have the bestest interest rates but not so much anymore these days.

K, your turn yo! What say you? Perhaps if we make enough noise up in hurr, the local banks will give us some special kine WWE hook-ups? 😉

Happy Survey Thursday… Woo Hoo it’s almost TGI(F)F!

This Is How We Do: Airplanes

June 16, 2009

Since bruddah ova hea has been travelin’ a bit as of late, I thought that sharing our airplane habits might be a nice widdle topic for our “This Is How We Do…” series. Agree? We go!

* Book Online – one of the benefits of the glorious Interwebs is that you can use it to book your flight, pick your seats, check in, print your boarding passes, etc., all without the headache of doing it in person. I take full advantage of it, especially with the seating. There’s nuthin’ that makes me more antsy/impatient than sitting on a plane waiting to get off. The further up towards da front I can get, da bettah! Less waiting!
* Pack Light – if I can help it, I try not to check anything in. Not only are there extra fees these days, I just like that I can get on and off de plane (de plane) and on my way in a flash. I know, I know… it’s probably easier for us guys than you ladies to pack light cause all we need is one clean underwear and we all G. 8)
* Set It and Forget It – I like to pack my bag in the overhead compartment in the row ahead (in row 11 if I’m in row 12). This way, retrieving it on the way out is easier/quicker and less of a hold up for the peeps behind me.
* iTunes – if it’s a long trip, I needs ta bring my iPod with loaded up tunes. Optionally, I’ll pick up a good magazine or two from the newsstand and may even bring the DS or portable DVD player.
* Sleeping Beauty – I can sleep anywhere at any time. Planes just happen to be one of these places. 8)
* Hurry up and wait – as soon as that bell rings, I unbuckle my seatbelt (my hand is already on it beforehand) and stand up in the aisle (if I’m in the aisle seat). I’d rather stand up and wait for the doors to open than be seated.
* Holla! – during the wait-for-the-door-to-open period, I turn my phone on. This wait is a good time to make calls (for a ride), check voicemail/texts, and browse the web.
* Out like trout – like I said before, I don’t like staying in the plane longer than I have to. Once those doors open, I’m itchin’ to get out. I become the fastest walker in the world once out on the Jetway. Why am I in such a rush? I have no idea. LOL!

Sound anywhere close to how you do? Share, share!

Fun Day Monday: You Know You’re Living in 2009 When…

June 15, 2009

Since we’re about half way through the year, I think it’s a good time as any to bust out a joke about the now. Enjoy y’all!

1.  You accidentally enter your password on the microwave.

2.  You haven’t played solitaire with real cards in years.

3.  You have a list of 15 phone numbers to reach your family of 3.

4.  You e-mail the person who works at the desk next to you.

5.  Your reason for not staying in touch with friends and family is that they don’t have e-mail addresses.

6.  You pull up in your own driveway and use your cell phone to see if anyone is home to help you carry in the groceries.

7.  Every commercial on television has a web site at the bottom of the screen.

8.  Leaving the house without your cell phone, which you didn’t have the first 20 or 30 (or 60) years of your life, is now a cause for panic and you turn around to go and get it.

10.  You get up in the morning and go online before getting your coffee.

11.  You start tilting your head sideways to smile.  🙂

12.  You’re reading this and nodding and laughing.

13.  Even worse, you know exactly to whom you are going to forward this message.

14.  You are too busy to notice there was no #9 on this list.

15.  You actually scrolled back up to check that there wasn’t a #9 on this list.

16.  And now you’re laughing at yourself.

Talk to me!
* Ahaha! So wot? Did you actually notice there was no #9? Be honest!
* Got any more to add to the list?

Guest Blog: Cine-ma-tic Per-spec-tive [uncle jimmy]

June 12, 2009

As I’m currently in da B.I. as you read this, our beloved uncle jimmy has graciously accepted the treacherous task of guest blogging today. Mahalos ah ooj! And in true uncle jimmy fashion, he has named this one with his own, unique language: Personal Pers-pec-tive… a movie survey of sorts… Please send your WWE love and leave your feedback for him below. Shoots!

What was the first movie(s) that you remember seeing as a young kid?
What movies do you remember seeing in high school? Did you go drive-ins?
What movies do you watch whenever they show up on TV?
Is there a movie that always makes you laugh? Cry?
What’s your fave movie of all time? Why?
Do you have a fave scene or quote from that movie?

Here’s mine!

What was the first movie(s) that you remember seeing as a young kid?
– Probably Jaws!

What movies do you remember seeing in high school? Did you go drive-ins?
– Mo’ Money, White Men Can’t Jump and Wayne’s World. And drive-ins? What’s dat? 😛

What movies do you watch whenever they show up on TV?
– Any of the Austin Powers movies. Mrs. Doubtfire is another good one. LOL!

Is there a movie that always makes you laugh? Cry?
– Laugh: Harold and Kumar or anything with Will Ferrell. Cry = LOL!

What’s your fave movie of all time? Why?
– Hmm… that’s a tough question. Gotta go look at my DVD collection. Rudy is the only one that pops in my head right now. Hehe!

Do you have a fave scene or quote from that movie?
– Not really, but I have fave quotes from other movies that can’t be repeated here. Ahahaha!

Mahaloz Ooj!

So how about it? Show uncle jimmy your love!

The Taking of the Last Name

June 9, 2009

There are peeps in two different camps on this one. I know this for a fact. And although it isn’t Survey Thursday yet, I thought it might be an interesting enough topic for us to chat about today. 🙂

I’m old school. I believe in the traditional way of wifey taking hubby’s last name upon marriage. And I know that’s very non-Nu Skool of me, and that all of these modern women will be attacking me, but sorry yo, that’s just me. I’m not saying one is right and one is wrong. Just the way a brutha thinks and feels ‘ass all! Sheez, no get all nuts!

And believe me, seeing what friends and my wifey have been going through for the last few months (and still!), I know the kinda trouble it is to change one’s name. Honestly, if I were a woman, I don’t know if I’d wanna do it. It’s a LOT of work. But as the boy, it’s flattering. It makes you feel complete, as a couple you know. Like you’re now a team… Officially. Naw-mean?

So what say you? Which camp are you in and why?

Fun Day Monday: Your Age By Chocolate Math

June 8, 2009

Since we’ve got a lot of chocolate lavahz up in hurr, here’s one I got via email that you may enjoy.

Chocolate Calculator:

This is pretty neat. Don’t say your age; you will probably lie anyway!

DON’T CHEAT BY SCROLLING DOWN FIRST

It takes less than a minute. Work this out as you read.

Be sure you don’t read the bottom until you’ve worked it out!

1. First of all, pick the number of times a week that you would like to have chocolate (more than once but less than 10)

2. Multiply this number by 2 (just to be bold)

3. Add 5

4. Multiply it by 50 — I’ll wait while you get the calculator

5. If you have already had your birthday this year add 1759.  If you haven’t, add 1758.

6. Now subtract the four digit year that you were born.

You should have a three digit number

The first digit of this was your original number (i.e., how many times you want to have chocolate each week).

The next two numbers are YOUR AGE! (Oh YES, it is!!!!!)

THIS IS THE ONLY YEAR (2009) IT WILL EVER WORK, SO SPREAD IT AROUND WHILE IT LASTS!

Talk to me!
* Did it work?
* Did this make you feel old? 8)
* Are you one of dem chocolate lavahz?
* How was your weekend?
* How’s your week lookin’ so far?
* Hope this put a smile on your face to start the week! 🙂
