Fave Five Friday – Hawaii Television Stations

July 18, 2008

*yawn* Sorry for the late post, but The Dark Knight took a toll on me last night. If you weren’t one of us nerds who saw it last night, I would recommend watching it. Great action, out of this world acting by the late Heath Ledger (the Joker), and decent storyline. Just prepare yourself for 2 and a half hours of movie time. *stretch*

Anyway, it’s Friday again, and that means the ever-popular (in my own mind) Fave Five Friday. Since we did Hawaii Radio Stations last week, let’s do the next logical thing and do Hawaii Television Stations. I’ll start again… Hurr we go!

  1. Spike TVThe Ultimate Fighter, anything UFC, Manswers, need I say more? (Oceanic Digital Channel 0559)
  2. HDNetInside MMA, HDNet Fights, Mark Cuban owned. Nuff said. (Oceanic HD Digital Channel 1355)
  3. ESPNAnything sports… yeah YEAH! (Oceanic Digital Channel 0222 or HD Channel 1222)
  4. Versus – To get my WEC fix, as well as TapouT (Oceanic Digital Channel 0210 or HGOLF 1216)
  5. VH1 – When I wanna get my reality on like Donkey Kong (Oceanic Digital Channel 0591)

Other situational favorites include A&E: more reality programming including real estate stuffs (0547 or 1547), the Premium On Demand Channels (HBO On Demand, Showtime On Demand, etc.), Food Network: when I’m hungry or for recipe inspiration (0321 or 1321), TBS: Office reruns, My Boys, etc. (0551 or 1551), OC16 (0016 or 1016), MTV: Hills… did I just say that? (0593), ESPN2 (0224 or 1224), ESPN News (0225 or 1225), Fox Sports Net West (0226 or 1226), CW: Beauty & the Geek! (0093), HD PPV: ordering fights (1700), Starz: good kine movies (0655 or 1655), Comedy Central (0545), and any of the Broadcast Network Channels: news, talk shows, special events (0003, 0006, 0007, 0008, or 1003, 1006, 1007, 1008).

Shoots! Happy Aloha Friday gang! Have a great weekend!

P.S. No fo-get to order and/or DVR the insane weekend of fight programming too (Affliction, UFC Fight Night: Silva vs. Irvin, etc.)! K!

The Dark Knight Opens Tonight Son!

July 17, 2008

Remember the days when getting excited over a movie based on a comic book/cartoon was considered nerdy? Well, call me Erkle because Hooooleeeee SHEMOKES! The Dark Knight looks pretty !#$% intense!

With a star-studded cast that includes Christian Bale, the late Heath Ledger (as the Joker), Aaron Eckhart, Michael Caine, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Gary Oldman, and Morgan Freeman (am I the only one who thinks he’s in every single movie ever?), the excitement and interest for this movie intensifies.

Talk to me:
Who’s gonna head down to watch The Dark Knight tonight when it opens in theaters at midnight? Looks like a winnah to me cuz! Holla!

Quinton Rampage Jackson Arrested!

July 16, 2008

After losing his UFC Light Heavyweight belt to Forrest Griffin earlier this month, Quinton “Rampage” Jackson went on a rampage of his own yesterday and was arrested at gunpoint by police in Costa Mesa, California for felony evading, hit-and-run and reckless driving. All this while driving in a huge camouflage Ford F250 with his own image on the side! Check out these images from TMZ. Whatchu think? Pure craziness or all a misunderstanding?

UPDATE! The new word is that Rampage was detained again on Wednesday! WTH!!!??? See MMAMania for more info!

In other news, Strikeforce Middleweight champ Cung Le is scheduled to be on The Hot List on ESPN News (Digital Channel 0225) or HD ESPN News (HD Channel 1225) this afternoon sometime. The show runs from 9am-12PM.

Happy Hump Day y’all!

Men Are Slime?

July 15, 2008

On the way to work this morning, the Hot 93-9 wake-up crew was teasing this (married?) guy who was trying to mack on Natasha, as their popular “Men Are Slime” song played in the background.

As such, today’s post is a little more tender and loving than previous MMA or sports-related posts. With candles lit, I pose the question to “all” dem women out there, “What is your ‘Men Are Slime’ horror story?”

Post it in the comments below son, er, I mean, won’t you please post your comments below? ๐Ÿ™‚

MLB Home Run Derby Today!

July 14, 2008

Marking the halfway point to the Major League Baseball 2008 season, the MLB All-Star festivities’ popular home run derby contest kicks off today at 2PM Hawaii Standard Time on ESPN. Sponsored by State Farm, the battle of the (long) bombers, like the All-Star Game itself, takes place at historic Yankee Stadium, the last time ever before the new Yankee Stadium becomes the home of the New York Yankees. The 8 participants (four from each league) this year are:

National League

American League

Talk to me!
Who you rootin’ for? Even though he’s not one of the biggest players of the bunch, as a Phillies fan, I gotta go with my boy Chase Utley. My other picks are Lance Berkman (experience) and Josh Hamilton (bruddah is huge!). Tune in to see why Baseball is one of the most exciting sports on earth. ๐Ÿ˜›

All-Star Game 2008
Today: State Farm Home Run Derby @ 2PM on Digital Channel 0222 (ESPN) or HD ESPN 1222.
Tomorrow: 79th MLB All-Star Game @ 2PM on Digital Channel 0003 (KHON) or HD KHON 1003.

In other news, Vai Sikahema knocked out Jose Canseco in the first round of their celebrity boxing match on Saturday (as first mentioned in a previous post).

Fave Five Friday – Hawaii Radio Stations

July 11, 2008

I thought this might be a fun lil’ addition to this here blog. Let’s do a mini poll of sorts, and see what you peeps’ fave five of just about anything is. I’ll start. Today’s five: Hawaii Radio Stations. (which usually equates to the 5 or 6 buttons on your car stereo eh?) Well, at least it is fo’ me. Hurr we go!

  • 104.3 FMPower 104.3 (also on Oceanic Digital Channel 0858)
  • 102.7 FM102.7 Da Bomb (also also on Oceanic Digital Channel 0854)
  • 93.9 FMHot 93-9 (also also on Oceanic Digital Channel 0868)
  • 100.3 FMKCCN FM100 (also also on Oceanic Digital Channel 0852)
  • 98.5 FM Island 98.5 (also also on Oceanic Digital Channel 0851)
  • 93.1 FM 93.1 The Zone (also also on Oceanic Digital Channel 0851)

These aren’t necessarily in the 1-5 order for me. Just gots it that way (grouped and numeric) so it’s easier to channel surf. Situational faves are: Hot 93-9 in the morning, 92.3 (KSSK) for traffic updates, 96.3 (Krater 96) during the 2 Million Dollar Money Mix periods ๐Ÿ˜‰ , and AM1420 (ESPN1420) during sporting events (esp after UH basketball games).

Shoots! Have a good weekend y’all!

The Poke Bowl to Open at Ward Farmer’s Market

July 10, 2008

So before heading over to Slammers the other night, my friend Todd calls and asks if I wanna come down and sample some poke at his friend’s place. If you know anything about me, you know that poke and I are one. Once he said the word poke, every word after that was a blur…

Shoyu Poke

So it wasย a no-brainer that I head on down to the old location of the Tropic Fish & Vegetable Center at Ward Farmer’s Market ASAP toย find out what Todd was babbling about.

You see, brothers Derek and Craig Uyehara (along with the help of their parents, and friends Todd and Chris that night) were prepping things for the scheduled opening of their new eatery called The Poke Bowl this Sunday.

The concept is simple, yet ingenius. It will be a build your own poke bar (prices start at $3.75), using the freshest local ingredients around including Big Island Ogo, Hawaiian Chili Peppers, Ewa Green Onions, and Kahuku Cucumbers. Pour all that over a hot bed of rice in a bowl and you got your Poke Bowl. Broke da mout’!

They will also serve bentos that include Salmon, Fish and Hamburger Patties, and Teriyaki Chicken, musubis and Sakura Boshi (seasoned Aku) from Hilo. Bottled water and soft drinks will also eventually be joined by alcoholic beverages. Mmmm!

Go and check them out this Sunday. They’re a couple of nice guys doing something different for the local community. Located at the old “Tropics” location at the Ward Farmerโ€™s Market (right side at 1020 Auahi Street, Building #1, Honolulu, HI 96814).

UFC 84 to (Re)-Air for Free on Spike TV Against CBS’s Elite XC Show

July 9, 2008

The UFC has done it again.

A few weeks after announcing an exciting Anderson Silva vs. James Irvin card on July 19th, the same night as upstart Affliction’s Banned Pay Per View event (Digital PPV Channel 0700 or HDPPV Channel 1700), the UFC has teamed up again with Spike TV (Digital Channel 0559) to fill up July 26th’s lineup with a night chock full of MMA, including the re-airing of the Silva vs. Irvin fight, an episode of UFC Unleashed and Ultimate Knockouts 5 and the re-airing of the once PPV UFC 84 Penn vs. Sherk event, to go up against the second showing of CBS’s Elite XC Saturday Night Fights! You heard it here first! ๐Ÿ˜›

To Rail or Not to Rail?

July 8, 2008

… That is the question.

Yep, this baboon is actually moving away from his comfort zone of silly randomness and going political on you on this one. Ya scurred?

There’s been a lot of debate about this topic and it’s HI time (get it? Hawaii time? *sigh*) I polled the 5 of you reading this blog on how you felt about this issue. ๐Ÿ˜›

I personally have about a 5 minute (depending on local traffic), one exit drive to work so it won’t affect me much, but can definitely see the value for people who face that horrendous traffic on a day to day basis.

So how aboud-it? Make your voice heard on this topic. Are you for or against mass transit (rail) in Hawaii and why or why not?

P.S. Back to random silliness tomorrow… ๐Ÿ˜‰

Back to the Work Grind Yo

July 7, 2008

Many of us had the day off last Friday July 4th. The forward thinking (or lazy?) ones also took Thursday off to enjoy a scrumptious 4 day weekend. Were you one of the scrumptiously relaxed ones this weekend? If so, what did you do? Just chill or catch up on errands l’dat?

Isn’t it strange how that always happens? You take the day off to relax, but you end up running around like a chicken without a head.

That was me this weekend, but for the most part it was good kine (productive) stuffs. I passed my State Real Estate Licensing exam (woo hoo!), celebrated (and got a bit tipsy) by doing the pau hana and karaoke thang with the future brother and law and gang, got tanned (burnt actually) and spent quality time with the homies at Sandy Beach and then later to watch the fireworks off Maunalua Bay, bonded with the ‘rents, changed my oil, made the return to my softball team (and hit a grand slam to boot!), finalized (I think) a tuxedo style for the big dance, picked up 3 solid Reyn Spooner aloha shorts at the 20% off Ala Moana sale, and downed some Acai for my future article. *big breath* Whew!

Here are some of the photo highlights…
